C. 2000 B.C.E Originated near the eastern region of Canaan, about where present day Israel are. Abraham is considered to be the patriarch/founder of Judaism. Abraham had two sons in his lifetime, one being Isaac the father of the Jews. Then Isaac’s son Jacob was given the name Israel later in life, and that is where the country got its name. Jerusalem is seen as the center of the Jewish religion ORIGIN

1.The Jewish religion was one of the first monotheistic religions, and believes there is only one eternal, incorporeal and unique God. 2.The Torah holds the sacred writings and the 10 commandments that God gave to the prophet Moses which makes him the greatest prophet in Jewish peoples’ eyes. The Torah is the main scripture of Judaism 3.A savior will come, which also means that they do not believe that Jesus was the son of God, like Christians do 4.Someday the dead will be resurrected 5.All thoughts and actions of mankind are known by God, who uses this knowledge to reward or punish humans justly 5 THINGS THEY BELIEVE

The Jewish religion is passed down through families, because you’re considered Jewish if your mother is. Jews have traditionally been located all in the same area, although that area has changed over time. For example, after the diaspora and before World War II, the majority of Jews lived in Europe, but after the creation of Israel, the majority of Jews can be found in Israel and the U.S. Jewish holidays are based on Israel’s agricultural calendar, the land where their religion originated, and are at the same time no matter where in the world a Jewish person is located. These holidays are also not solely about commemoration events in the life time of an important Jewish figure, as with universal religions. ETHNIC RELIGION

Judaism is an autonomous religion because there is no one who really has any authority of others, and areas occupied by Jews are not organized into a system. Even though there is a Rabbi who leads the services, he is no more qualified to lead than any other adult male. But other than that, there is no one person who decides on the rules and teachings for all of Judaism. AUTONOMOUS

Israel, known as the “promise land” and it’s city of Jerusalem, is very sacred to the Jewish religion, mainly because the religion believes that God told Abraham to lead his people there and for all of his descendants to live there. Israel has been the home to Jews on/off for the past 3,200 years. The Synagogue also known as “House of assembly” is a place for study, education, and social events. Although Jews pray everywhere. The Temple was the center of Jewish worship and it was destroyed in Roman times, it is said that the new messiah will rebuild it, the western wall is the last remains of the old Temple SACRED SPACES AND PLACES
