8. How is Telematics used in the road transport industry? Vehicle telematics can be a powerful and valuable tool to improve the efficiency, effectiveness, security and safety of vehicles, drivers, and transport companies It facilitates the effective management of a variety of factors such as routes, speeds and loads, to improve safety, productivity and reduce vehicle wear, transportation times and overall operational costs 8

9. How is Telematics used in the road transport industry? Some practical applications of commercial vehicle telematics include monitoring of: Vehicle – position movement, status and behaviour of a vehicle or fleet of vehicles and compliance Security – vehicle and consignment access, vehicle and IVU tampering, driver safety and security Operational Performance – engine and transmission performance, maintenence, fuel usage, logistics and better fleet utilisation 9

12. The industry is leading the way… The good news… The transport industry is already leading the way During 2014, it was estimated that around 25,000 heavy vehicles are already fitted with hardware which satisfy key TCA requirements 12
