A prepositional phrase consists of a preposition, its object (a noun) and any modifiers of the object. Basketball was first played with real baskets. with = preposition real = modifier baskets = object

3 October 25, 2010 Write the prepositional phrases in the following sentences. (list on p.19) The historic news conference occurred on January 13, 1999. Michael Jordan of the Chicago Bulls announced that he was retiring from basketball. After the announcement, the reporters asked Jordan about his reasons, his emotions, and his plans. Jordan explained that basketball no longer presented him with a strong mental challenge. Although Jordan’s love for the game of basketball remained unchanged, he chose to pursue new goals.
