4 Definition- a devotion to one’s nation. This helps unify the people of a country However, it will also create competition between countries Especially between Germany, Austria- Hungary, Great Britain, Russia, Italy, and France

5 What is it exactly they are competing for? EVERYTHING Land Materials Trade The country with the most is the greatest

6 Imperialism This nationalist pride is going to lead to imperialism. Definition- a policy in which a strong nation seeks to dominate other countries politically, economically, and socially. Hence, the scramble for Africa! Remember, the more countries you take over the greater nation you are!

8 Alliance System Since all these big and powerful countries are taking over the smaller countries need to find a way to protect themselves from being taken over. In order to protect themselves the smaller countries are going to make alliances with stronger countries. Definition: an agreement between two or more countries to give each other help if it’s needed.

10 Militarism Also because of imperialism nations are going to increase military spending. This will lead to militarism Definition- development of armed forces and their use as a tool of diplomacy All these major powers are going to build up their military because if their military is weaker than the others that means they can be taken over.
