Germans anger Americans ● Germans angered Americans by sending the Zimmerman telegram, and by sinking the Lusitania ● In 1917 Zimmerman (a German secretary) sent a telegram to the Mexican government letting Mexico know if they helped Germany in the war, Germany would grant Mexico all the land the U.S. had taken from them in the mid to late 1800’s

America Joins the War The sinking of the Lusitania [1915].The Lusitania was a British cruise liner, sunk by a German U-boat [submarine]. The ship had 139 Americans on board (124 killed)– this made more Americans want to join the allies, and fight the central powers.
