10 Building up of strong armed forces and a powerful military.  Before World War I tension and rivalry amongst European nations led countries like Germany and Britain to expand the army and navy in preparation for war. 

11 An agreement or promises to defend and help another country.  In the early 1900’s, nations feared one another. Each nation was afraid another would invade or try to take over its territory.  When an alliance is signed, those countries become known as Allies.

12 Imperialism is when a country takes over new lands or countries, and controls their government, economy, and culture.

13 Strong pride in your country, and willing to defend it at any cost..
