4 Universal Credit recipients Unemployment in Scotland fell by 2,000, to 176,000 in the period April to June 2014, according to the Office for National Statistics. Scottish Secretary Alistair Carmichael said: “It is also good to see the number of people claiming Jobseekers allowance continues to fall. It is now at its lowest level since October 2008 and is 35,500 lower than one year ago.”

5 Universal Credit recipients (continued) More than 400,000 (414,000) workers in Scotland are still being paid less than the living wage, according to a study undertaken KPMG (Nov 2014) Between 5-8% of families in Scotland (604,000) receive child and working tax credits.
