APPX Conference 2002: The ProMaster Application Suite Presentation by: Philip Bryan Colony101: Delivering ROI on business Systems

Presentation Agenda - The background- What we wanted to achieve -The design philosophy and application the philosophy - A short demonstration - Navigation - Application master file - Parameters & settings - Transaction processing - A quick look behind the scenes - ProMaster modules and functionality - Questions and answers - Colony101

Colony101 - Computer consultancy based in Sweden and UK - Currently about 100 staff - Turnover of $8M in 2001 - Customers include Sweden - Telia, AstraZenica, Volvo, Swedish Railways UK – Methodist Church, National Health Service

What we wanted to achieve - To design an application set with instant user appeal and acceptability - To make a product that we could take to new as well as existing customers - To have applications that provide a sound base design onto which customer special functionality could be built - To have fun seeing what we could do with the APPX tool, and to better understand the new functionality - To develop programming techniques, and design standards, that can be applied quickly to existing applications

Design & application philosophy -On table maintenance and enquiry processes, the presentation should be tabular with overlays for additional attributes - Having got to a point in the application, the user should be able to do everything that they might reasonably want to without having to go to another menu - Navigating the application should be intuitive - Speed of application build, and maintenance overhead, must be considered – don’t use the APPX GUI features just because the capability exists

Demonstration – Navigation All application main menus follow the same style and layout The ‘Key’ master file of each application always comes first The symbol “»” indicates more menu options

Demonstration – Key Master File The scrolling screen allows the user to select the required record All fields are selectable as keys to the file The Button Bar at the bottom of the screen provides many extra facilities including file lists All file maintenance processes follow this format

Demonstration - Parameters This single display combines the features of File Maintenance File Lists Period Processing Status Inquiry Close Period

Demonstration - Transactions The user sees all unposted control groups The journal is printed by pressing the ‘Journal’ button at the bottom of the screen When the control group has been validated as OK by the journal printing process the “Post” button becomes valid All special features such as ‘operator exclusive’ are available in Add’l Attributes
