3 3 What are the Overall Requirements? To demonstrate that you have the skills, knowledge & experience required for effective performance in the nine specified competencies To demonstrate level of responsibility, breadth, depth and scope of role To meet the specific procedural requirements listed in the brochure

4 4 Application Requirements include: A completed application form available from the HRINZ website or from National Office Up to date CV Current job description Names of two referees Brief summary of relevant information to support your application

5 5 Brief Summary of Relevant Information includes: This will “wrap up” your application Comment on lines of reporting, degree of independence (current & previous positions) Provide any other information in support of your application that has not become apparent anywhere else

6 6 Gradings Panel Criteria Knowledge, skills and experience in generalist or specialist role adequately demonstrated Appropriate HR role Senior level of responsibility

7 7 Gradings Panel Criteria Continued Scope of role in terms of breadth, depth and complexity Breadth of experience as a generalist or specialist Qualifications, training and development and practical experience

8 8 The Nine Competencies Managing the Human Resources Function Human Resources Planning & Staffing Learning, Training and Development Employment Relations Remuneration and Benefits

9 9 The Nine Competencies Continued Safety, Health, Welfare and Support Systems and Information Management Performance Management Change Management

10 10 Objective of the Competency Assessment To demonstrate how your knowledge and skills and experience in human resources match the nine descriptions of professional and technical competence

11 11 What Does this Really Mean? You do not need to be an expert in every competency However you must be able to demonstrate your understanding of the disciplines and how they inter-relate with the other competencies You are not being judged on your personal competency

12 12 Competency Responses Respond to the sub competency bullet points by providing actual examples from your experience as evidence Be brief, accurate and concise 100 words max per bullet point Use numbers where possible to illustrate scope

13 13 You are Nearly There! Do check that you have met all procedural requirements Advise your referees in advance in line with the Privacy Act Do not overstate your experience - be honest The panel may wish to interview you

14 14 Certification Is Valuable! You move from general to professional membership You enjoy the public recognition of your standing in your profession It is an asset for your CV and career development It shows your ongoing commitment to professionalism and excellence
