1 Documentary Project (Long Feature News) Television Production and Broadcasting I

2 Definition  Documentary – the genre of using pictures or interviews with real people in real events to provide a factual record or report.  Feature News Story (Broadcast Journalism) – a detailed, subjective story that focuses on a specific person, place, or event.

3 Purpose  Why do filmmakers choose to create documentaries? In other words, what purposes do documentaries serve?

4 Challenges  As filmmakers, what challenges do you foresee in doing this project?

5 Requirements  At least 05:00 minutes  Maintain same groups or arrange for different ones. No more than five (5) people in a group.  Professionalism must be kept in mind.

6 Assessments  Two paragraph document that explains the description of your chosen topic and the purpose for exploring the chosen topic.  Plot Diagram  Large/Small Group Discussions:  Critiques and Response to Professional Documentaries  Bibliography of at least four (4) sources:  Two Interviews  Two credible sources with authors (print or electronic)  MLA format – visit knightcite.com to help cite  A one page reflection paper (double-spaced) that addresses what you have learned from the documentary process - Individual  Self and Peer Evaluations  Overall Project Quality

12 Two forms of content  1). Non-verbal: B-Rolls and non-lyrical music  2). Verbal:  Formal and informal interviews  Voice-overs

13 Interview Etiquette  Introduce Yourself  Explain Purpose and Reasons for Interview  Schedule (Have dates and times in mind)  Be welcoming, inviting, and considerate
