2 Thesis Disneyland has come a long way since it opened its doors in 1955 and has faced a lot of changes in the rides, in expanding the original park in Anaheim and even in creating new parks around the world. With the help of the advancement in technology going hand in hand with changing American culture, the Disney empire is becoming a truly “magical” factor in the lives of people.

3 History ⇒ Opened its doors on July 18th, 1955
⇒ Originally only 36 attractions in the “lands”: Main Street U.S.A, Tomorrowland, Fantasyland, Frontierland and Adventureland ⇒ Only 1.2 million visitors in 1955

4 What is it? Disneyland has been advancing and expanding
Plans for improving the park are always being thought of and being set in motion

5 Disney Shanghai Resort
Construction on the newest Disney park and resort, Disney Shanghai Resort began on April 6, and is expected to open in the next 5 years.

The Disneyland parks have expanded to 6 different parks: -Disneyland & Disney’s California Adventure -Walt Disney World -Tokyo Disney -Disneyland Paris -Hong Kong Disneyland -Disney Cruise Line How many Disney Parks and Resorts are there around the world ?

7 What caused it? Advancement of technology
People “need and demand amusement, refreshment, and pleasant relaxation from daily tasks and frets”

8 Remodeling of Star Tours
Disneyland recently shut down Star Tours and are enhancing the ride which was originally built in 1987. Star Tours: The Adventures Continue will be more interactive for riders and will be presented in 3D and is set to open on June 2, 2011.

9 What is its impact in the US?
It’s given people an escape from their regular lives Helps them relive part of their childhood Makes a lot of money for the economy Created jobs for the people who live near the parks

10 How is the current recession affecting Disneyland?
At the beginning of the recession, attendance to the park dropped slightly. Attendance is picking up despite the rising price of tickets. As of Aug. 5, 2010: ⇒ One day, one park: $76 from $72 ⇒ One day, Park hopper: $101 to $97 How is the current recession affecting Disneyland?

Disneyland in Anaheim, California currently has 58 attractions and it’s neighbor Disney’s California Adventure has 34 attractions. How many rides and attractions are in Disneyland now?

13 Relation to Pre-21st century America?
Suburbanization: Disneyland was a way to attract people of the white, middle class Culture of past eras still apply today Walt Disney, “People will need and demand amusement, refreshment, and pleasant relaxation from daily tasks and frets as much in your day as they have in ours and in all the generations of mankind.”

14 How will Disney Parks change in the future?
They will continue to expand their parks and use new discoveries in technology to improve their rides as they have in the past like in Walt Disney’s plans. How will Disney Parks change in the future?
