Rotary Club of Missoula

What this club means to you? Opportunity to serve: financially, with time, with skills (or all three). Fellowship Education on community, national and international issues. Networking Proud to be involved. Opportunity to give back.

Key issues facing the club: Forecasting $15k less in revenue this year Retention of members is off. 181 members: 6/30/2009 166 members: 6/30/2010 Not attracting new members/keeping new members like we should be. Club is aging. Participation is off.

What does less money and fewer members mean? Are we better equipped to serve with fewer people? Are we better equipped to give with less financial resources? Is fellowship better with fewer people and less diversity? Is our ability to network hamstrung with fewer people? Does the pride we have in our club suffer? Does more responsibility fall to a smaller number of people?

Communications Committee Membership Decline: Core Underlying Issues

Budget 2010/2011 Two months in to our fiscal year. Current revenues means we have to make cuts. Options: International Giving Community Giving OR Holiday Party Other internal expenses 20102009 June $0$23,228 July$64,738$44,343 August$ 8,002$17,892 Total$72,740$85,463 Shortfall($12,723)

What do we need? Agreement from each club member to take our club from good to great. Agreement that fewer members and less money makes for less of a club. Agreement on who we are trying to attract. Agreement to change our board member/committee chair structure. New Member Committee needs strong leadership. Who? New Member Committee needs a great project. What? Membership committee needs a target list, website, quota, something to sell and quarterly Rotary orientations.

What do we need? Continued. Communications Committee needs to strengthen media ties and improve public relations to make the right impressions/change perceptions. Decision on budget cuts. Agreement to table the price point discussion and focus on club value first. Agreement that it won’t be a light switch but a work in progress. Agreement that Kathy will report once a month on where we are at against objectives. Committee members who will do the work of their committee. Committee Chairs/Board Members who will tackle issues, provide tools and strategy and direction to committee members.

Four Way Test Is what we have presented today the truth? Are changes being recommended fair to all involved? Will changes being recommended build goodwill and better friendships? Will changes being made be beneficial to all concerned?
