1 OICW System Enhancements STO III.WP.2000.01 Specific Goal: Design, Build and Demonstrate Prototype Micro-Electro Mechanical Systems (MEMS) based Safe & Arm (S&A) Devices to Include Micro- scale Firetrain (MSF) Why? Cost for the OICW projectile is high. The S&A contributes significantly to the cost. Large fuze (small payload) limits terminal effects Payoff: Reduced cost –50% over traditional S&A Increased lethality and survivability – 75% S&A volume reduction Enabling MEMS technology facilitates fielding of OICW and OCSW

2 Lethality Enhancement & Weight/Cost Reduction Technologies for OICW Pacing Technology High Aspect Ratio MEMS MEMS Fuzing MEMS S&A DIE MSF – Energetic material, transfer charge design OICW System Enhancements STO III.WP.2000.01
