10 Tank-automotive & Armaments COMmand
Subsystems Challenge Main Armaments Launcher with swing chamber Compact ammo handling needed to allow more room for stowed ammo Recoil management High recoil forces and light vehicles present unique challenges while minimizing under volume. Fire Control Direct and indirect compatible with network centric force Ammo Suite Electro-thermal-chemical (ETC) Propulsion High energy propellant with low sensitivity and precision ignition in compact cartridge Multi-Mode Warhead Development Effects against multiple targets with one munition type Advanced Materials Lightweight & High Strength -THE RECOIL MANAGEMENT SUBSYTEM BASELINE IS FOOB THIS APPROCH HAS BEEN TRIED BEFORE IN VARIOUS ARTILLERY SYSTEMS AND ALTHOUGH FEASIBILITY HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED IT REQUIRES PRECISION IGNITION TO WORK. THAT IS WHY WE SELECTED ETC IGNITION. AS YOU WILL SEE LATER, IT PROVIDES THIS AS WELL AS PROVIDING ADDITIONAL MUZZLE ENRGY. - THE SWING CHAMBER LAUCHER USES THE CHAMBER AS THE AMMO TRANSFER MECHANISM THUS ELIMINATING WASTED VOLUME WHICH CAN BE USED FOR MORE AMMO STORAGE. OR THE REDUCED UNDER ARMOR VOLUME CAN BE TRADE WITH PLATFORM WEIGHT. -THE ADVANCED FIRE CONTROL SUBSYSTEM Must BE CAPABLE OF PROVIDING BALLISTIC SOLUTIONS AIMING AND STABILIZATION ACROSS LARGE VARIATIONS IN ELEVATION AND AZIMUTH WHILE ON THE MOVE. LETHALITY IS PROVIDED BY A THREE ROUND FAMILY ALL OF WHICH REQUIRE ETC IGNITION AND HIGH ENERGY,REDUCED VULNERABILITY PROPELLENT. FINALLY, INTEGRATED MULTI FUNCTIONAL,SELECTABLE WARHEADS ARE BEING DEVELOPED TO PROVIDE TARGET DEFEAT KILL MECHANISMS. Tank-automotive & Armaments COMmand

11 Swing Chamber Cannon / Autoloader Challenge
Main Armament Launcher with swing chamber – CTA Compact ammo handling needed to allow more room for stowed ammo – 40 to 50 rds Enable rounds/min burst firing rate Cannon weight to be 3500 / 3000lbs Direct/Indirect fire -10 to +55 degree firing elevation

12 Recoil Management Challenge
Solution Extended recoil stroke for direct fire, reduced stroke for higher angle, indirect fire, lower impulse rounds Systems concerns dictate we minimize weight and launcher imbalance Reduced stroke for high elevation firing minimizes turret intrusion (FOOB complexity increases weight and volume, although recoil stroke is less) Type Risk Recoil Stroke (mm) Weight (lbs) Mount Height (mm) Mount Width (mm) Mount Vol. (m3) Under Armor Imbalance (lbs) Recoil Volume (m3) Equil. 13 Fire Control and Turret Integration
Tactical (Networked) Solution Multi-agent fire control Distributed Interactive Fire Mission (DIFM) Maximize first round probability of hit FCS Combat Decision Aids Ensure proper tactical decision making using all available info Technical (Platform) Solution Dynamic muzzle (not Trunnion) stabilization Automatic muzzle reference sensing Projectile flight tracker Auto-zero and auto-boresight Improved meteorological (MET) sensing Automatic target tracker Accomplishments Fire Control Prime solicitation combined with Turret Integration solicitation Contract awarded to GDLS Awarded contracts for decision aids development and DIFM algorithms Joint STO with AMRDEC (and CECOM) for Fire Control Node Engagement Technology (FC-NET) Tank-automotive & Armaments COMmand

14 FCS Advanced KE Challenge Barrier Pacing Technologies
Penetrator Challenge Increased lethality against heavy armor at LOS ranges . Barrier Increasing threat protection Smaller, lighter round Pacing Technologies Novel Penetrator Composite Sabot ETC Propulsion Composite Sabot Pull Configuration Advanced Propellant Chamber Seal ADVANCED KE THE ADVANCED KE AMMUNITION ROUND WILL PROVIDE DIRECT LINE OF SIGHT (LOS) TARGET DEFEAT CAPABILITY FOR THE MULTI-ROLE ARMAMENT SYSTEM. HEAVY ARMOR TARGETS WHICH HAVE EVADED PRIOR DETECTION AND CONFRONTING THE FCS IN THE POINT BLANK TO 4KM RANGE WILL BE DEFEATED WITH THIS HIGHLY PRECISION LONG ROD ADVANCED NOVEL PENETRATOR AMMUNITION. NEW PROPULSION AND INTEGRATION OF ADVANCED COMPOSITE MATERIALS AND MANUFACTURING PROCESSES DEVELOPED FOR 120MM AMMUNITION WILL BE ADAPTED AND IMPROVED FOR SUPERIOR PERFORMANCE IN THE 105MM SIZE. Chamber Seal Cartridge Case Projectile Advanced KE: Defeats LOS Heavy Armor threats

15 MP-ERM with Multi-Purpose Warhead
Challenge Warhead effects against multiple targets with one munition type (in order to reduce logistics burden) out to 12km. Barrier Constraining volume while increasing performance Current warheads are optimized for particular target classes Delivery errors of ballistic flight Solution Precision munition Hi-G survivable G&C Multi-purpose warhead More powerful explosives Ignition circuits / selectable fuzing MP-ERM Multi-Purpose Warhead MP-ERM TAKING MAXIMUM ADVANTAGE OF SITUATIONAL AWARENESS AND DEPLOYING A MULTI-ROLE ARMAMENT SYSTEM WITH EXTENDED RANGE AMMUNITION CAPABILITY ENABLES “RED ZONE” DOMINATION AND SHAPPING. FORCE-ON-FORCE ANALYSES HAVE SHOWN SIGNIFICANT BLUE FORCE ADVANCE WITH MP-ERM FIELDING. TARGET DEFEAT AT EXTENDED RANGES WILL SUBSTANTIALLY INCREASE FCS MULTI-ROLE AMRMAMENT SYSTEM SURVIVABILITY Defeats… helicopters, personnel, heavy armor, walls, BMPs, trucks, bunkers, buildings, artillery, UAVs.

16 Government Baseline FCS Smart Cargo Carrier
Challenge Lightweight carrier round with sufficient volume to carry multiple payloads out to 50km. Barrier Smaller round leaves less room for cargo than a 155mm cargo round Latency of target location information due to long time of flight. Pacing Technologies Lightweight Accurate Carrier Round Maximize payload volume smart skin (smart materials and structures for control actuation surfaces) Metal matrix composites for airframe Hi-G survivability of navigation sensor and airframe (IMU, GPS/INS) Dynamic Retargeting Robust commo links with FO to munition Leverages Army MEMS IMU Effort Carrier Target Acquisition Devices In-flight Update (Dynamic Re-Targeting) MP-ERM TAKING MAXIMUM ADVANTAGE OF SITUATIONAL AWARENESS AND DEPLOYING A MULTI-ROLE ARMAMENT SYSTEM WITH EXTENDED RANGE AMMUNITION CAPABILITY ENABLES “RED ZONE” DOMINATION AND SHAPPING.
