1. Independent Reading Task Success Criteria: read and understand an unfamiliar text which challenges you develop an awareness of skills needed to understand an unfamiliar text and how to use it to inform your own writing add to basic text with key phrases which will improve and enhance your writing

2. Do not shout out what the story is – other people are still working it out! Step 1: Read the cut outs you have and highlight any key words you do not know Discuss the gist meaning of the phrases The first person to work out what story it is gets a whole house point!!

3. Success criteria – can you successfully identify what you did well and not so well when looking for key words? Discussion point 1: What challenges did you face in using the dictionary to translate these phrases? What top tips would you pass on to your classmates?

4. * take note of time phrases and connectives – they will play an important role in sequencing ideas Step 2 Start to put the phrases in order so the story makes sense

5. Success criteria – can you think ahead and plan what you will need / want to say Discussion point 2: What time phrases (in English) could you think about putting in if you wanted to make the text flow better? Do you know any time phrases in German? Could you find some more in the dictionary?

7. Step 3 You will now get a storyboard. Write the sentences underneath the appropriate pictures.

8. Discussion point 3: How could you improve the text? Is it interesting / dynamic / descriptive enough? What would you add to the text if you wanted to improve it? Now make a list of adjectives, connectives, time phrases etc you could add to your story to enhance it.

9. Discussion point 4: What will happen to the word order if you add a phrase in at the beginning of a sentence? Now write out the story from the storyboard but with some changes which you think improve the text. Best improved version gets a house point or even 2!
