 Dictatorship is defined as a country, government, or the form of government in which absolute power is exercised by a dictator.  A dictator is a person with absolute power, a ruler who has absolute, unrestricted control in a government without succession.

When a country is ran by a dictator it is almost always a dictatorship. That is how someone can recognize it.

 There are still more then forty countries that use dictatorship for example Pakistan, China, North Korea, Cuba, Chile, and Iraq. These are just some of the countries that still use dictatorship.

 What are good things about dictatorship?  Good things about dictatorship are that most things are always in place. There are rarely people breaking the laws.

 What are the bad things about dictatorships?  Bad things about dictatorship are that dictators use fear and force to keep himself in authority. A dictator can effectively make laws on his own.  The people under a dictatorship must follow the laws or are severely punished, most punishments end in death.

 No dictatorship does not promote a particular culture. Dictatorship is a form of government, or leadership.

 People were scared of the consequences that would be taken against them for not following the laws. In Chile alone there were more then 1,130 secret detention and torture centers. Life was hard and unfair.

People were used as slaves. They were beaten and put under difficult tasks and forced into small crammed areas. When people worked it was not for money it was for their lives. People were given scarce amounts of food.

People under a form of dictatorship, were scared and usually unfriendly. They obeyed all laws under fear that they would be killed or beaten. Dictatorships were almost always parts of militaries.

 A country ruled by a dictator has never been a democracy. Countries ruled by a dictator is called dictatorship. Most dictators gain political power by winning an election and cancelling future elections once they have won. Its not always clear whether a leader is a dictator or not. Kings and emperors use force and fear to but usually are not considered dictators. Military dictatorship is a form of government.

In conclusion dictatorship can be either good or bad it just depends on the person or people, and or the place. I didn’t really understand what dictatorship was until I did the research I thought it was going to be something Mr. Stewart was going teach us. I now have a more clear understanding on what it is, a powerful leader.
