ACTIVE VOICE We se ACTIVE VOICE when our main concern is who does the action. My father cleans the house The boys played in the park Da Vinci painted the Monalisa

PASSIVE VOICE We use passive voice when we care more about THE ACTION than the PERSON who does it. It is formed by: Object + verb to be + verb (past participle) + BY (optional) + noun (optional) The Bank was stolen by the thieves

HERE ARE SOME EXAMPLES ACTIVE VOICE My father cleans the room Jane is fixing the car DaVinci painted the Monalisa The kids were not kicking the ball We have finished the tests PASSIVE VOICE The room is cleaned by my dad The car is being fixed by Jane The Monalisa was painted by DaVinci The ball was not being kicked by the kids The tests have been finished

ACTIVE VOICE The students will finish their project My sister is not going to buy that house The teacher had finished his class PASSIVE VOICE The project will be finished by the students That house is not going to be bought by my sister The class had been finished by the teacher

PASSIVE VOICE + MODALS ACTIVE VOICE They can´t open the case They may finish the project The doctor might not do the operation The writer should finish the book. The students ought to study for the test PASSIVE VOICE The case can´t be opened The project may be finished The operation might not be done by the doctor The book should be finished by the writer
