5 5 Dulles SHRM: Your Chapter of Choice Programs Keli Winter Conducted Annual Member Survey in March 2008 with 30% response rate Utilized member responses on areas of interest from Member Survey to 2009 program topics Try to focus on topics that are “hot” but not too trendy Have already identified topics and speakers for 9 of 11 meetings in 2009 Coordinated with speakers throughout the year Confirmed speakers Obtained content and bios for posting on the website Purchased speaker gifts

6 6 Dulles SHRM: Your Chapter of Choice Discussion Group Janet Geib Organized 12 discussion group meetings in 2008 on just-in-time topics Total attendance was 200 through November; average attendance was 20 Have identified topics through November and several discussion leaders for 2009 Committee participated in facilitating and planning discussion group meetings Wistaria Krigger Tim Kelly Cindy Loison Courtney Nicholson Tina Atwell

8 Membership Joseph Gregory and Jamey McNamara 8 Dulles SHRM: Your Chapter of Choice Total membership as of end of November was 279 – 103% more than 2007 130 (47%) are renewals from 2007 149 (53% ) are new members Continued to promote Ambassador program Board members are assigned to welcome new members at their first meeting – very successful! Continued to track membership statistics How many members have attended meetings, years of HR experience, certifications,etc. Conducted two new member orientation sessions

9 9 Dulles SHRM: Your Chapter of Choice Treasury Tina Atwell Maintained Chapter financial health at >$53,000, up from $44,000 in funds from same time last year Moved funds from Ameriprise Account into BB&T account to earn a better rate of return

10 10 Dulles SHRM: Your Chapter of Choice Communications Christopher Schaffer Notified members of monthly meetings and discussion groups (3 mailers per month for each) Prepared and produced 12 Chapter newsletters – Dulles SHRM went “green” and now only posts the newsletter on the website Produced a “Save the Date” flyer to keep members informed of upcoming events each month

Continued to update and upgrade our website Posted chapter events, Board meeting minutes, newsletters, advertising, etc. Added and revised web pages as needed Updated National and State SHRM links – e.g., SHRM Foundation, News Feed, VA State SHRM Posted job openings and resumes for members as requested

12 12 Dulles SHRM: Your Chapter of Choice Registration Judy Carter and Linda Caporaletti Hoyt Decreased the registration lines at meetings by placing more emphasis on the use of website and mailer messages to encourage prepayment Increased the percentage of prepaid meeting attendees who use the credit card payment option 62% in 2008 Prepared Dulles SHRM nametags for attendees to speed up registration process Worked with sponsorship coordinators to develop consistent, visible signage at registration table promoting annual and monthly sponsors.

13 13 Dulles SHRM: Your Chapter of Choice Certification Chas Sumser Registered 18 participants in the 2008 PHR/SPHR Study Group (10 SPHR, 8 PHR) Pass rate to be measured in February 2009 after testing window closes and results are posted 2008 survey to be completed in January 2009 All 11 Dulles SHRM chapter meeting programs approved by HRCI for credits Continued partnership with NOVA SHRM to participate in the Peer Mentoring program Served as member of advisory committee and peer liaison 5 Dulles SHRM members selected for the class of 2008

14 14 Dulles SHRM: Your Chapter of Choice Diversity/Workforce Education Evelyn Kaiser Connected members with community resources Engaged 11 community speakers to present information about their services/resources at Chapter meetings Worked with the Communications Director to increase the Diversity/Workforce information on our website Continued to support the initiative “Circle of Champions” between National SHRM and Office of Disability Employment Policy

Initiated relationship between Landmark Academy and Dulles SHRM – Board members taught various topics onsite for students Matched 12 Dulles SHRM members to organizations and workforce development professionals to help with employment related issues for the job seekers Workforce Initiatives were included in the Workforce Readiness Book

16 16 Dulles SHRM: Your Chapter of Choice Student Chapter Liaison and Scholarship Nidhi Kanungo Awarded two chapter scholarships of $1,000 Coordinated Guest Lecture Series at Marymount University Continue to attempt to establish relationships with Student Chapters at GMU, GWU and Marymount 4 Board members participated as volunteers in the HR Games, an annual college-level competition sponsored by SHRM Denise Henderson, Les Eszenyi, Marlene Mouanga, Keli Winter

17 17 Dulles SHRM: Your Chapter of Choice Legislative Affairs Organized “Day Inside the Beltway” to lobby on the Hill in May 2008 “High quality, but not high quantity” with 6 participants Met with National SHRM’s Governmental Affairs office at Alexandria Headquarters Met with staff of the local Congressional delegation Lobbied on proposed legislation including the FMLA changes

18 18 Dulles SHRM: Your Chapter of Choice SHRM Foundation Mary Roome-Godbolt Will support the SHRM Foundation in 2008 with a $1,650 contribution (10% increase from 2007) $607 collected through monthly 50/50 raffles as of October Chapter meeting Remainder donated out of general funds Contributed articles on the work of the SHRM Foundation to the Chapter newsletter Applied for Chapter Champion status with National SHRM Embry Rucker Collected $523 (through November) from members to provide support to Embry Rucker, a homeless shelter in Reston

19 19 Dulles SHRM: Your Chapter of Choice More … Dulles SHRM Secretary Prepared Board meetings minutes (posted on our website) Hosted our first Annual Business Partner Fair 27 vendors and 25 participants were present Participants and vendors given opportunity to network and share products and services We plan to hold it again in 2009 Co-sponsored the 3 rd Annual Greater Washington Employer Benefit and Work/Life Survey

20 And more.... Raffled $700 worth of gift certificates to members during the year to use for HR related educational materials/seminars/classes Raffled one VA State SHRM Conference registration to members in the month of September
