5 Transportation “The University encourages sustainable modes of transportation and recognizes the need to balance the demands of pedestrians, cyclists and vehicles” - McMaster University Sustainability Policy Modality: Encouraging multiple sustainable modes of travel (carpool, transit, cycling, walking)

6 Transportation Demand Management (TDM) at McMaster

8 Sustainability Internship Program Enabling students who have a passion for sustainability to facilitate application of their formal education from sustainability theory to practical application Provide experiential learning opportunities Students receive full course credit for their work

9 Campus-wide Transportation Survey Surveyed students, faculty & staff to understand attitudes towards travel and develop TDM initiatives that support commuting patterns To encourage multi-modal travel, it was found an economic incentive was needed From this research came the recommendation to develop initiatives that reduce the investments required in order to utilize the personal automobile

10 Flex Pass To provide an economic incentive for students, faculty & staff to take sustainable modes of transportation A 10 visit reloadable parking pass $90 for 10 entry/exits Can be used for many lots on campus
