Pre and Post modification Adjectives and Adjective Clauses

Adjectives ( 形容詞 ) They are used to describe nouns ( 名詞 ) In describing nouns, we can put one or more adjectives before the noun and phrases or clauses after it.

The common structures are: 1. Adjectives + Noun e.g. a delinquent( 行為不良的 ) man

The common structures are: Noun Phrase. 2. Adjectives + Noun + Preposition + Noun Phrase. Yaumatei Typhoon Shelter. e.g. a destroyed boat in Yaumatei Typhoon Shelter.

The common structures are: 3. Adjectives + Noun + Adjective Clauses e.g. a difficult job which requires( 需要 ) shift duty.

1. Adjectives + Noun When we would like to enrich the properties of the noun, using adjectives is the most direct way. e.g. A blazer ( 運動夾克 ) vs An ugly blazer vs An ugly woolen ( 毛織 ) blazer vs An ugly woolen school blazer

3. Adjectives + Noun + Adjective Clauses Mr Leung owns a farm. His son is my classmate. Mr Leung, whose son is my classmate, owns a farm. The woman lives in a hut( 小屋 ). Its roof leaks. The woman lives in a hut, the roof of which leaks.
