 Contact Transmission - Directly contacting with an infected person - Touching an object that had been handled by an infected person  Air Transmission - Inhaling drops of mucus (sticky liquid) full of cold germs from the air Route Of Transmission

General Symptoms Coughing sore throat runny nose blocked nose( 鼻塞 ) Sneezing( 打噴嚏 ) Muscle-aches( 肌肉酸痛 ) Fatigue( 疲勞 ) headaches muscle weakness( 肌肉無力 ) Shivering( 發抖 ) loss of appetite( 食慾不振 )

General Symptoms  Fever is commonly a symptom of influenza whose symptoms broadly overlap with the cold but are more severe 劇烈. Symptoms may be more severe in young children (due to their immune system 免疫系統 not being fully developed) as well as the elderly (due to their immune system often being weakened 削弱 ).  Those suffering from colds often have a sensation of chilliness. Although chills are usually go with fever, the sensation may not be caused by actual fever.  In a study, 60% of those suffer from a sore throat and upper respiratory tract infection reported headaches often due to nasal congestion 鼻塞.  The symptoms of a cold usually resolve after about one week, However, it is not rare that symptoms last to three weeks.

General Treatments in HK Getting plenty of rest Drinking fluids Taking over-the-counter medications to relieve symptoms e.g. pain, fever Using cough drops or throat sprays - but not cough medicine for children under four Aspirin-but not for babies, children or teenagers because of the risk of Reye's syndrome Alternative treatments that have also been used include: Echinacea Vitamin C Zinc

Should Antibiotics be prescribed for all common cold? Wrong, giving antibiotics will only increase the bacterial resistance and thus weaken the body. 'Preventive' antibiotics taking do not change the course of viral disease. In these cases, symptomatic treatment is used instead. Yellowish post-nasal drip at the throat

Preventive Measures  Good personal hygiene - Wash your hands with soap frequently - Keep fingers out of the eyes and nose - Sneezing and coughing should be done into tissues  Good nutritional supplements - Vitamins A, C and zinc  Avoid having cold sufferers cough and sneeze on you or in your direction.  Wearing a mask  Having a healthy habit - Do exercise at least 3 times a week - Have a balanced diet - Have enough rest
