Additional pages may be provided during testing as needed. – Calculators (as outlined in the calculator policy) – Timing device such as a clock or watch, to keep track of time during testing (if one is not clearly visible within the testing room) – “Testing – Do Not Disturb,” “Go On,” and “Stop” signs to post on the doors of the testing rooms or the board

Allowable calculators (TAM, p. 11-12) For grades 6-7, students may only use a four-function calculator with square root and percentage functions. For grade 8, students may use only scientific calculators. A calculator will be provided using the TestNav platform as well. Students can only use a calculator on the designated calculator section of the assessment. If schools or districts permit students to bring their own hand-held calculators for PARCC assessment purposes, Test Administrators must confirm that the calculators meet PARCC requirements as defined above. Additionally, schools must adhere to the following guidance regarding calculators: – No calculators with Computer Algebra System (CAS) features are allowed. – No tablet, laptop (or PDA), or phone-based calculators are allowed during PARCC assessments. – Students are not allowed to share calculators with another student during a test unit. – Test Administrators must confirm that the memory on all calculators has been cleared before and after the testing units. – Calculators with “QWERTY” keyboards are not permitted.

Calculator Accommodation policy (TAM, P.12) For students who meet the guidelines for a calculation device, this accommodation allows a calculation device to be used on noncalculator sections of any PARCC Mathematics Assessment.

Mathematical Tools (TAM, P.12-13) Geometry Tools Tracing paper, reflection tools, straight edge and compass are allowable materials for the grade 8 mathematics test. These are not required tools but can be made available to students if they use the tools regularly during instruction. Geometry tools are not allowed for grades 6 and 7. Rulers and Protractors

Headphones (TAM, p. 13) Headphones are needed for ELA/Literacy PBA units or for students who receive the text-to-speech accommodation for the ELA/Literacy assessments or the accessibility features for the Mathematics assessments. Volume controls appear before the start of each unit. Therefore, the volume can only be adjusted prior to beginning the test—attempting to adjust the volume later may cause TestNav to close.

Materials After Testing (TAM, p. 13, 146) The following materials may be provided only AFTER the student has completed their assessment and turned in their materials: – Recreational books (subject must be unrelated to content testing) – Pamphlets, periodicals, magazines – Notebooks or papers – Pens or colored pencils

ELA Resources 14 Headphones Headphones are needed for ELA/Literacy PBA units For students who receive the text-to-speech accommodation for the ELA/Literacy assessments or the accessibility features for the Mathematics assessments. Volume controls appear before the start of each unit - volume can only be adjusted prior to beginning the test Attempting to adjust the volume later may cause TestNav to close

Guidelines for Administration Time 15 Guidelines for Administration Time Task Time to be Allotted for an Administration Preparing for testing (includes reading instructions to students and answering questions) 10 minutes Distributing test material 5 minutes Unit testing time 60–90 minutes* Completing end-of-unit activities, including closing units, collecting test materials, and administering a student survey (after EOY only) 5–15 minutes *Depending on unit and subject—refer to Unit Guidelines and Schedule table in the Test Administrators Manual for each Unit Time.

Guidelines for Administration Time 16 Guidelines for Administration Time (continued) Provide all students with the entire amount of Unit Testing Time. Once the Unit Testing Time has elapsed, the unit must end. A student may be allowed an extended time accommodations only if listed in his or her IEP, 504 Plan, or EL Plan. Refer to your School Test Coordinator for which script option to read regarding what is allowed if students finish early.

Make-Up Testing 17 Make-Up Testing Students who are absent, become ill, or who can no longer test because of classroom, school, or technical interruptions during original units, may utilize make-up testing. Students are not allowed to return to any portion of the test they have already completed. Test security and administration protocols apply. Units may be taken out of order for make-up testing only. * Note: all units must be scheduled in sequential order.

Steps to prepare for PARCC Computer-based Tests: Manage and monitor Test Sessions in PearsonAccess next – Start test sessions – Understand the active testing status indicators – Manage test interruptions – Understand how a student should exit a test – Resume student’s test – Completed and Marked Test Complete status – Stop Test Sessions Information on how to complete these activities will be found in the PearsonAccess next Training Module 18 PearsonAccess next

A quiet testing environment is priority #1! Every testing location should have proper lighting, ventilation and be at a comfortable temperature To maintain security in a computer-based testing environment, PARCC suggests configurations for seating student Testing Environment (TAM, P.16, 18)

Visitors- including parents/guardians, school board members, researchers, reporters, and non authorized testing personnel- are prohibited from entering the testing environment. Visitors during testing (TAM, p. 16)

During a unit, “stand-and-stretch” breaks of UP TO 3 MINUTES may be permitted at the discretion of the Test Administrator. Do not allow talking among students during breaks. Students are not permitted to use electronic devices, play games, or engage in activities that may violate the validity of the test. Breaks during testing (TAM, p.6, 25)

Only one student is allowed to leave the testing room at a time for an individual restroom break during testing. A student must be supervised at all times between the testing room and restroom (e.g., by a Proctor). Restroom Breaks (TAM, P. 25, TCM, P. 10)

All directions may be repeated as necessary for all students Test administrators may redirect student’s attention to the test without coaching or assisting the student: – Provide reminders to stay on task and focused – Provide a redirection as part of a classroom management plan or school rules – Provide a visual cue for students to stay on task Guidance for Redirecting Students (TAM, p. 24)

The test administrator has the authority to dismiss any student for misconduct. Collect the student’s test materials and close their test session. They will be dismissed from the exam room with no opportunity to make-up/retake missed questions (if test has already started). The test administrator may recommend test invalidation. Make sure you go into TestNav and exit the student’s test Dismissing student misconduct (TAM, 25)

Post a “Testing- Do Not Disturb” sign on the outside of the door on the testing room during each session. Do Not Disturb (TAM, P.22, Appendix F)
