3 Yorktown AP Scholars  Students Interested in Challenge  Academically-capable  Motivated and Curious  College-level coursework  Aligned to national AP program

4 What  6 or more AP courses in Gr 10 - 12  Intensified Grade 9 coursework  Attend enrichment activities - 2/yr  Meet twice a year as a group with the coordinator for that year  Maintain B or better in all classes  Complete special project and brief reflection paper

5 AP Courses in Humanities  English Language and Composition  English Literature and Composition  European History  World History  United States History  United States Government and Politics / Comparative Government  Psychology  Microeconomics/Macroeconomics

6 AP Math and Science  Statistics  Calculus AB Calculus BC  Chemistry  Environmental Science  Biology  Physics B Physics C  Computer Science A

7 AP World Languages  French Language and Culture  Spanish Language  German Language and Culture  Chinese Language and Culture  Latin: Vergil

8 AP Visual and Performing Arts  Art History  Studio Art 2D – Design, Drawing, or Photo  Studio Art 3D – Design or Ceramics  Music Theory

9 Special Project  One Year or Multi-Year project  Content focus in one discipline or more than one:  English  Math  Science  Social Studies  The Arts  World Languages  Complete by May of Grade 12

10 Special Project  Can be completed any year  Advantage in completing before Grade 12  Includes guidance from a staff member or adult in their field of interest  Brief (2-3 pg) reflection paper after completion

11 Who  9th Graders who will attend Yorktown starting in 2013-2014  Interest in Applying to and Participating in Program  Final Grades of B or higher in core courses and World Language in Grade 7 and first 2 Quarters of Grade 8

12 Why  Opportunity to Develop Unique Interests and Talents  Special recognition of official Yorktown AP Scholar status  Letter for college applications  May earn College Board honors (Determined by AP scores)

13 How  Complete application (Available online at Yorktown website or Counseling Dept)  Provide letter of recommendation from one current teacher  Complete brief essay (see application)  Attach grades to application

14 When  Applications accepted starting in January 2013  Must be submitted by February 15  Program begins with Freshmen in Fall 2013
