4 Setting  English, Maths and Science set according to ability  based on prior attainment, potential and teacher recommendation EnglishMathsScience

5 Qualifications  GCSEs  BTEC (Health & Social Care, Vocational Studies)  OCR Cambridge Nationals (ICT)  City & Guilds ITQS (ICT)

6 Exams  all GCSEs now linear  exams sat in Summer of Year 11  Core Science sat in Summer of Year 10  Additional Science sat in Summer of Year 11  Internal mock exams in Spring of Year 10 and before Christmas in Year 11  BTEC courses now have an exam component  no exams at all for OCR National course

7 Coursework  no coursework in Maths, RE, Computing or Economics  “controlled” coursework in all other GCSE subjects  anything between 20% and 60% of final grade in these subjects  coursework calendar published on the school website

9 Progress for all  not just C grades  cross-curricular, employability skills  extra-curricular activities  tracking  intervention encouraging fully-rounded, confident individuals, able to participate as positive citizens

10 Attendance Matters Is 90% a good attendance figure? 90% attendance 1 school year at 90% attendance 90% attendance over 5 years of secondary school = ½ day missed every week = 4 whole weeks of lessons missed = ½ a school year missed Research suggests that 17 missed school days a year = 1 GCSE grade DROP in achievement. (DfE)

11 Attendance Matters Attend and Achieve If a school can improve attendance by 1%, it will see a 5-6% improvement in attainment. (DfE) Ensure your child’s attendance remains above 95%, allowing him/her to achieve his/her potential.
