Building a partnership for F&G-VG Application Conceptual linkages – F&G: more effective land policies in Africa – VG: governance of tenure of various natural resources (also fisheries and forestry) – Similar principles: equity, information, transparency, gender, customary rights, investments, markets, effective land administrations and institutions Supportive processes – six collaboration (i) between FAO technical divisions and the Land Policy Initiative LPI – FAO supporting and contributing to the process of preparation and elaboration of the FG ; – LPI Secretariat support to Group of African Ambassador reps to FAO in VG negotiations ensured in-built synergies between F&G and VG

6. Building a partnership for F&G-VG Application/2 ownership and legitimacy – VG and FG have complementary; non- competing status. – FG developed thru African owned process--- commitment thru a Declaration on Land Issues and Challenges in Africa, – FG Derive legitimacy from AU Assembly Declaration, among other things. – VG document reflects global consensus among the 96 countries and other stakeholders under the Committee on World Food Security (CFS). – AU Declaration mentions « the need for strong systems of land governance rooted in principles of sustainability..»
