1970-1977 Became a pilot (recreational flying only) Early 1970s Became involved in harness racing, and owned or co-owned three race horses

May, 1973 Started playing in a country music band (guitar and bass) and actually got paid … July, 2011 Still playing in a band and doing country music when they let me, but no longer get paid …

1977 Completed PhD in mathematics from Dalhousie University in Halifax while working full time at Saint Mary’s University The hat was worn only once!

1983 and again in 1988 Raided by police and prosecuted for selling “obscene” items. First time “Not Guilty” Second time defended myself in three-day trial before same judge. Guilty verdict overturned on appeal and never re-tried. Altogether, one of my very favorite experiences …

1994 in Nashville, Tennessee: Presenting Saint Mary’s honorary degree to Hank Snow, famous “country music” musician Mid-1990s in Omaha, Nebraska, USA: Pat is now a successful stockbroker and gets to meet Warren Buffett

2000: Created Annual High School Computer Programming Competition sponsored by SMU, IBM, Microsoft and others

2004 Awarded the “Father Stewart Medal for Excellence in Teaching” An internal award by the University, based on feedback from both students and faculty

June, 2011 News Release “… has a scholarship named in his honor by a local company, SimplyCast, an international leader in multi- channel marketing Platform- as-a-Service (PaaS) solutions.” Company owner was a former student.

Am currently co-authoring a web programming text for second-year university students. It is now with the publisher and should appear in 2012 (with a much more attractive cover, one hopes).
