Prompt In The Westing Game, by Ellen Raskin, why do you think all of Sam Westing’s identities have a direction in their last name? (Northrup, Eastman, McSouthers, Westing)

Re-state the Prompt Restate part of the prompt in your thesis statement. …all of Sam Westing’s identities have a direction in their last name because…

Thesis Statement Include the title and author of the selection in your thesis statement, along with restating the prompt. In The Westing Game, by Ellen Raskin, all of Sam Westing’s identities have a direction in their last name because the directions are clues to help them solve the mystery.

Text Examples Use text examples to support your response. Include a sentence explaining why the example supports your response. Ex. 1: “That’s it, that has to be it: The heir who wins is the one who finds the fourth! Windy Windkloppel took four names, and she knew who the fourth one was.” This shows that the four names were a hint to the heirs. Turtle uses this hint to conclude that the four names are the four directions. Ex. 2: “The heir who wins the windfall will be the one who finds the fourth. It was so simple once you knew what you were looking for. Sam Westing, Barney Northrup, Sandy McSouthers(west, north, south). Now she was on her way to meet the fourth identity of Windy Windkloppel.” This shows that the directions were the main clue that helped Turtle solve the mystery.

Concluding Statement Wrap up your response, and restate your thesis in the concluding statement. I think Sam Westing’s identities all have a direction in their last name because the directions are very important clues for the heirs.

Example In The Westing Game, by Ellen Raskin, all of Sam Westing’s identities have a direction in their last name because the directions are clues to help them solve the mystery. The directions eventually give the heirs the name of the person who took Sam Westing’s life. For example, Turtle concludes, “That’s it, that has to be it: The heir who wins is the one who finds the fourth! Windy Windkloppel took four names, and she knew who the fourth one was.” This shows that the four names were a hint to the heirs. Turtle uses this hint to figure out that the four names are the four directions, so the final name has to have “east” in it. The book also says, “The heir who wins the windfall will be the one who finds the fourth. It was so simple once you knew what you were looking for. Sam Westing, Barney Northrup, Sandy McSouthers(west, north, south). Now she was on her way to meet the fourth identity of Windy Windkloppel.”This shows that the directions were the main clue that helped Turtle solve the mystery. All of the names tell Turtle that the final name must include “East” in it. She figures out that the final identity is Julian Eastman, and solves the mystery. I think Sam Westing’s identities all have a direction in their last name because the directions are very important clues for the heirs.
