2 Early Life Of Phoebe Ann Moses Phoebe Ann Moses was born the 5 th out of 7 children to Susan and Jacob Moses. She was born in Darke County, Ohio on August 13, 1860.

3 Learning To Shoot After her father’s death in 1866 she was left to help fend for her family. It was then when she taught herself to shoot her father’s rifle to hunt wild game.

4 15 Year Old Sharpshooter At the age of 15, Phoebe Ann Moses was invited to her first shooting competition in Columbus, Ohio. Also, this would be her firstcompetition with the great sharpshooter, Frank Butler. Phoebe Ann Moses beat Frank Butlerat this competition.

5 Transitioning to Annie Oakley Eventually Phoebe Ann Moses joined Frank Butler in the touring business. Around this time, Phoebe Ann Moses gave herself the professional title Annie Oakley. In 1884, Annie Oakley met Chief Sitting Bull, and he gave her the nickname Little Sure Shot.

6 The Start of Annie Oakley’s Career On August 23, 1876 Annie Oakley married Frank Butler. After their marriage, the couple joined Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show and toured with Buffalo Bill for the next 17 years.

7 Annie Oakley’s Later Life In 1901, Annie was in a terrific train crash that left her partially paralyzed for a short time, but she was able to recover and keep her skills alive. Annie Oakley’s death came about on November 3, 1926 at the age of 66.
