2 Ramp-Up Resume Bingo Go around and find someone who…._____________ No person can be used on your sheet more than once Try to make a T(t) in your paper: 5 spaces filled vertically and 5 spaces filled horizontally

3 Discuss Was it hard to find people to fit the descriptors? If so, which? How many people… – Know what a reference is? – Have work experience? – Participate in extracurricular activities? – Volunteer? – Can identify his/her strengths and skills?

4 Pre-Test What is the purpose of a resume? What are three sections that may be found on a resume? What are 2 strengths or skills you can include on your resume?

6 What is a Resume? A resume is a 1-2 page summary of your skills, education, and experience Why do we need resumes? – Jobs – College applications – Scholarships A resume is often your first impression when applying for a job, college, or scholarships

7 Sample Resumes Look at the sample resume you’ve been given Discuss in your group: – What are the main parts of the resume? – What information is included under each part? – How is the information organized? Share with the class: – What are the main headings on the resume?

8 Resume Parts The most common parts on a resume are: – Main heading with name and contact information – Work experience – Education – Volunteer experience – Extracurricular activities – Awards/Honors – Skills – References

9 Strengths and Skills Reflection Before completing a resume, it’s important to start thinking about the skills and strengths you want to highlight on your own resume. – They will come through in the various parts of the resume. Complete the Strengths and Skills Reflection in Family Connection or on paper – Use your postsecondary plan for ideas

11 Review The purpose of a resume is to share a summary of your skills, education, and experiences with prospective employers, colleges, or donors. The parts of a resume include: Main heading with name and contact information Work experience Education Volunteer experience Extracurricular activities Awards/Honors Skills References Discuss: What is one strength or skill that you possess?

12 Postsecondary Plan Add the new strengths and skills you came up with on your reflection sheet to your Postsecondary Plan

13 Looking Ahead You will be using what you learned today about parts of the resume and about your own strengths to create your own resume next class.
