7 New Product definition
Combines the best of our Hitachi Unified Storage (HUS) 100 family and Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform (VSP) to create a new entry-level enterprise storage system Design attributes from VSP Robust microcode base for open systems HiStar based block controller architecture Design attributes from HUS 100 Modular form factor, installable in any standard 19-inch rack (using supplied rails) Disks and disk trays share common hardware (firmware is unique to each) VSP Enterprise HUS VM Entry-Level Enterprise We are combining the microcode and controller architecture of our VSP with the modular form factor and disk storage of our HUS 100 family From the VSP, the microcode offers the same enterprise functionality it supplies for open systems (no mainframe) The controller, although smaller in package, is designed with the shared resource design of the VSP with clustered processor/cached modules which share a global cache As such, it is a new dual node, Hierarchical Star Network shared resource controller. It is not a stripped-down VSP, nor an HUS 150 with new firmware. Like the HUS 100 family the controller is a modular form factor designed to fit in any standard 19” cabinet using Hitachi provided mounting rails The disk drives and corresponding trays are also shared although their firmware is unique, thus they are not interchangeable between HUS family and this new design HUS 100 Midrange

30 HCS Mobility Package for HUS VM
4/11/2017 Product capabilities used to optimize the use of tiered storage whether at the volume or sub-LUN level Pool Data Heat Index Tier 0 High-Activity Set Tier 1 Normal Working Set Dynamic Tiering Volume Tier 2 Dynamic Tiering will be available on the HUS platorm soon after initial release (1-2 quarters). With Hitachi Dynamic Tiering software the complexities and overhead of implementing data lifecycle management and optimizing use of tiered storage are solved. Dynamic Tiering software simplifies storage administration by eliminating the need for time consuming manual data classification and movement of data to optimize usage of tiered storage. Hitachi Dynamic Tiering automatically moves data on fine-grain pages within Dynamic Tiering virtual volumes to the most appropriate media according to workload to maximize service levels and minimize TCO of storage. For example, a database index that is frequently read and written will migrate to high performance flash technology while older data that hasn’t been touched for a while will move to slower, cheaper disks.  No elaborate decision criteria are needed; data is automatically moved according to simple rules. One, two or three tiers of storage can be defined and used within a single virtual volume using any of the storage media types available for the Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform. Tier creation is automatic based on user configuration policies, including media type and speed, RAID level and sustained I/O level requirements. Using ongoing embedded performance monitoring and periodic analysis the data is moved at a fine grain sub-LUN level to the most appropriate tier. The most active data moves to the highest tier. During the process the system automatically maximizes the use of storage keeping the higher tiers fully utilized. Quiet Data Set Content Hitachi Dynamic Tiering Hitachi Tiered Storage Manager

48 APPLICATION DATA CONSOLIDATION
Multi-applications NFS SMB FC iSCSI Multi-protocol Multi-data types The strong foundation we have is based on the core storage products that Hitachi has been selling for some time. Hardware and software File and content services Converged data center solutions A strong foundation we have is based on the core storage products that Hitachi has been selling for some time. These layers are mutually exclusive and you don’t need to have all the layers, but you can. This foundation can be delivered to support traditional IT and as we talked about in the strategy session, these enablers will result in a very well run IT shop, but they themselves are not cloud. They are the foundation for which to build cloud upon by adding in delivery mechanisms and offering in 1 of 3 deployment models. Single management Single storage pool

49 CONSOLIDATION USE CASE AND OPPORTUNITY
Windows servers do both block and file today Look for opportunities to use block module to serve block applications as usual, then add the ability to consolidate Windows file servers Tier and migrate inactive data to the HCP LAN FC Domain Controller SAN HCP – Large object store, regulatory compliance, multi-tenancy and namespace, WebDev/REST support

50 virtualization centralizes storage services
Meet service level objectives Provide common storage services to all data consumers Improve management ratio of employee to terabytes Deliver the right performance at the right price at the right time Deploy centrally or as a remote storage node Data Consumers Storage Pool High-Perf. SSD - MOD High-Capacity SAS - MOD High-Capacity FC - MOD High-Perf. SSD - ENT High-Capacity FC - ENT High-Capacity SAS - ENT NAS object Virtual Tape librarY Virtual Servers Physical Servers Common Management Common Replication Monitoring and Tuning Dynamic Data Movement Dynamic Provisioning One of the primary reasons to virtualize storage is to provide common services to all data consumers With a central platform, storage administrators can manage HDS and non- HDS storage centrally A virtual tiered pool of storage capacity is provide from all storage virtualized These services can be provided for internal consumers as well as external customers In this manner your service levels are known so objectives can be confidently met

51 Reduce Data Migration Cost and Risk
Industry Average Tomorrow COMPARISON OF METHODS Host Based Migration Replication Technologies Hitachi Block Virtualization NoN disruptive Migration Cross platform Y N (any to any) Y (HUS VM to VSP) Application downtime per server 2hrs 2-3 hrs <30 min None Number of outages 2 1 Impact on server performance High Clustered host support Yes No IT Risk Medium Low Lowest This table compare today solution and our new offering Our Nondisruptive solution will eliminate the application downtime currently required without ever touching the host, support clustered configuration and will be perform with more automation to lower the technology refresh effort and risk.

52 Hitachi nondisruptive migration
how it works Host I/O protocol to storage device is based on the concept of an initiator and a target Initiator Target Storage Server Logical device identity (LDEV ID) is used to manage multiple devices LDEV 1 LDEV 2 LDEV persistent group reserve (PGR) are used to lock volume to a host LDEV3 VIRTUAL PHYSICAL New persistent virtual LDEV ID and takeover function

53 INTELLIGENT FILE TIERING
