The 11-story, 550-bed hospital first opened its doors in 1986. Today, 70 percent of University Hospital's patients are admitted from communities or regional hospitals outside the Ann Arbor area. In its 1,796,262 square feet, the hospital houses diagnostic equipment, clinical laboratories, operating rooms and inpatient and intensive care units.

Mott Children’s Hospital opened, enabling us to better fulfill our commitment to providing newborns, children and pregnant women with the best health care possible. In addition to providing safe, effective and progressive care for women and children, the new C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital has been designed to provide a new and larger home for a pediatric specialty services – many of which are not offered on this scale anywhere else in Michigan such as the pediatric liver transplant program, the Level I Pediatric Trauma Program, the Pediatric and Adolescent Home Ventilator Program, Fetal Diagnostic and Treatment Center, Craniofacial Anomalies Program, and our internationally renowned Michigan Congenital Heart Center. Our new hospital will help us continue to evolve, transform and drive the future of children’s medicine and pregnancy and childbirth care. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County is a teaching hospital with 464 beds that provides primary, specialty and tertiary healthcare services. The hospital has a staff of more than 300 attending physicians along with more than 400 medical residents and fellows. The Trauma Center is one of the most respected in the nation. The hospital’s adult emergency room treats over 110,000 patients annually. While the Pediatrics emergency room treats 45,000 children and adolescents each year with a no wait policy.

It is nationally and internationally known for many specialties of care, areas of research and its new medical hospital building, the Tower. Chelsea Retirement Community 13 Established in 1906, the United Methodist Retirement Communities (UMRC) is an integrated long-term care provider. Across six locations, UMRC offers independent living, assisted living, short term medical and rehabilitative care, and memory loss and dementia care. In 2013, UMRC cared for 1,029 residents and served an additional 343 residents at its affiliated facilities. UMRC is internationally known for its innovations in long-term care, particularly dementia care. In 2015, UMRC was included among the best nursing homes with a five-star rating by the U.S. News & World Report based on health inspections, nurse staffing, and medical quality of care.
