2 USU DL Road Map Blackboard Bandwidth Bound Multiple SIS Stressed Infrastructure Debilitated Smart Classrooms .Edu Upgrade  Sakai LMS  Sakai Portfolio  Registrar  100% Lecture Capture  Instructional Design Team(s)  Lecture Hall Upgrades  E*Value  Network upgrades  ITunes University We are here today… We are able to go here… If we invest in a scalable infrastructure  New Learning Management System meeting USU requirements  Open Courseware  Knowledge Vignettes  Self-paced education  Faculty/Student Portfolios  USU-wide Registrar  Significantly Improved Bandwidth 2

3 Academic Computing Landscape in AUG 2012 Sakai Learning Management System (funded) LMS for all medical school courses Test and Quiz platform Self-directed learning content/quizzes Host for USU developed Virtual Cases Grades/Test Scores SonicFoundry Lecture Capture System (funded) All lectures delivered in lecture halls available as streaming content or audio. Seminars can be captured and available Registrar (Kuali funded) Enrollments All programs on same platform USU ITunes University Copy-right free lectures E-Value (funded – not fully supported) Third and Fourth Year grades and evaluations Defense Connect Online Supports real-time meetings. Seminars and lecture broadcast over the Internet. Instructional Design Team (not fully funded – 12-17 POM) Team able to support development of dynamic content developed during course re-design 3 Instructional Designers, Medical Graphics Artist, Web designer Third/Fourth Year Scheduling (in-house) System enabling faculty involvement in 4 th year scheduling and integration with Registrar for grades

4 Academic Computing Landscape in DEC 2012 Students Portfolio System Self-reflection Integrated grades Mentoring Tools E-Value Integration of E-Value information with Registrar and Student Portfolios USU ITunes University “I” Platform applications Registrar Tightly integrated with LMS Matriculation Graduation Auditing Business Intelligence Tool driven reporting

5 Academic Computing Challenges Student owned computers do not have wired or wireless access at MTFs Personally owned hand-helds not allowed on the network AHLTA access process for students must be coordinated across the MHS A “lockdown browser” environment is unlikely to exist by 2012 to support off-site testing. Testing centers will need to be used. Instructional Design Team too small to support widespread development of self- paced content..edu conversion for USU systems is required to leverage increased bandwidth necessary for wider access to content.
