According to Smith (2006), “Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of their country” (p.1).

5 In-Text Citations Format is Last Name, Year, Page or Paragraph in parentheses. Period follows parentheses. Page is p., Multiple Pages are pp. (Smith, 2006, p. 1). In event of On-Line source, paragraph is designated by para. or ¶ (Smith, 2006, para. 1). Multiple authors are connected by “&” – (Smith, Jones, & White, 2007, p. 1). Subsequent references use “et al.” – (Smith et al., p. 2). In the event of no identified author, as with some web pages, use first few words of title and the year. Use double quotation marks around the title of web page or article – (“Study Finds,” 2010). Italicize if the title of a periodical or book is given without author – (Study Finds, 2010). If no date is given, use n.d. in place of the year – (“Study Finds,” n.d.). Personal Communications have author’s surname and initials and full date – (J. F. Smith, personal communication, July 4, 2007). Personal Communications are not included in the reference list. Quotations longer than 40 words are block indented 5 spaces from left, left justified only, double spaced, without quotation marks. Note that the last period is before the citation – Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of their country. Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of their country. Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of their country. Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of their country. (Smith, 2006, p. 1)

6 Biblical Citations APA Citations use 3-4 letter abbreviation for the book of the Bible, followed by a period – (Rom. 1:12). Identify in the first citation the version you used – (Revised Standard Version). You need not repeat the version in subsequent citations, unless you switch to a different translation. Reference list entries of the Bible are not required (ask your professor for their preference.) Citation of a commentary from a Study Bible would be an exception and would warrant inclusion in References. TIU PRECEDENT Biblical references that are in the text are spelled out – Romans 1:12 If a Bible passage is referred to in the text, but not directly quoted, version is not needed in the citation. If the passage is quoted, version should be identified with a letter abbreviation – (Rom. 1:12 NKJV).
