4 USE USE 1 Unspecified Time Before Now
We use the Present Perfect to say that an action happened at an unspecified time before now. The exact time is not important. We CAN use the Present Perfect with unspecific expressions such as: ever, never, once, many times, several times, before, so far, already,just, yet, etc.

5 EXAMPLES I have seen that movie twenty times.
I think I have met him once before. There have been many earthquakes in California. Have you read the book ,yet? Nobody has ever climbed that mountain. A: Has there ever been a war in the United States? B: Yes, there has been a war in the United States. He has just phoned me.

6 USE 2: WITH SINCE AND FOR • SINCE shows the beginning of action
• FOR shows duration EXAMPLES I have studied since you left. I have studied for 2 hours. SINCE Past simple Pres.Perf.

7 USE 3: IN “HOW LONG” QUESTIONS
“How long have you studied?” “I have studied for 2 hours.” Press me for aTIP !

8 TIP ! THE TENSE IN THE QUESTION IS ALWAYS THE SAME TO THE TENSE IN THE ANSWER !!! So, whenever you are to answer a question, don’t think too much ! Just use the same tense in your answer.

9 USE 4: ACTION STARTED IN THE PAST, BUT STOPS NOW ( UP TO NOW)
I have studied up to now. ( now I don’t anymore ! ) I have studied for half an hour. ( now I don’t anymore ! ) I have studied since you left. ( now I don’t anymore ! )

10 ADVERB PLACEMENT Adverbs such as: always, only, never, ever, just, already -are placed IN FRONT OF THE MAIN VERB. I have already visited London. Have you ever visited London? She has just left. “YET” is used only for interrogative and negative and it is placed at the end. He hasn’t left yet.

FORM + S+ HAVE/HAS+ BEEN+ VB. ING I have been studying for 2 hours. S + HAVEN’T/ HASN’T + BEEN+ VB ING I haven’t been singing for 10 minutes. ? HAVE/HAS+ S+ BEEN+ VB. ING ? Have you been waiting for the last 2 hours?

14 USE Action started in the past and may still continue.
I have been running since the competition started. ( I am still running as the competition hasn’t finished yet)

15 It is important to remember that Non-Continuous Verbs cannot be used in any continuous tenses:
Abstract Verbs to be, to want, to cost, to seem, to need, to care, to contain, to owe, to exist... Possession Verbs to possess, to own, to belong... Emotion Verbs to like, to love, to hate, to dislike, to fear, to envy, to mind... Use them in Present Perfect Simple instead
