The most practical lesson for Christians to learn is that Christ and His word guides us in every relationship we have When one submits to Christ he no longer "runs his own life" 1Cor 6:19-20 We must bring into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ 2Cor 10:5
2
ONE CANNOT MAINTAIN THE PROPER RELATIONSHIP TO CHRIST WITHOUT PROPER CONDUCT IN ALL RELATIONSHIPS OF LIFE
3
MOST RELATIONSHIPS EXIST APART FROM THE FACT THAT YOU ARE A CHRISTIAN – When born one immediately has some relationships FAMILY - parents (maybe brothers of sisters) CIVIL - you become a citizen
4
MOST RELATIONSHIPS EXIST APART FROM THE FACT THAT YOU ARE A CHRISTIAN – Later one may enter voluntarily into other relationships ECONOMIC - business: farming, factory, etc SOCIAL - community: neighbors, schools, etc MARRIAGE - husband, wife, father, mother, children
5
ALL OF THESE CAN AND DO EXIST REGARDLESS OF WHAT ONE IS RELIGIOUSLY OR WHETHER ONE IS RELIGIOUS AT ALL
6
A CHRISTIAN FORMS A NEW REALATIONSHIP WHICH REGULATES ALL OTHERS – One in Christ is a new creature 2Cor 5:17 This "inness" effects all things in your life - some things have to be "out" This relationship to Christ is a primary thing - "a first" Matt 6:33; 1Jhn 1:6-10; Eph 4:1-6
7
A CHRISTIAN FORMS A NEW REALATIONSHIP WHICH REGULATES ALL OTHERS – Civil relationships - "government" Respected and recognized as a minister of God Rom 13:1-6 Its purpose - punishment of evil doers and praise of those who do well 1Pet 2:13-14
8
A CHRISTIAN FORMS A NEW REALATIONSHIP WHICH REGULATES ALL OTHERS – Economic relationship - "Business" Must work to supply needs 1Thess 4:11-12; 1Tim 5:8; Eph 4:28; 2Thess 3:10-12 Principles of Christ's will must be honored Eph 6:5-8; Col 3:22-25; Eph 6:9; Col 4:1
9
A CHRISTIAN FORMS A NEW REALATIONSHIP WHICH REGULATES ALL OTHERS – Social relationship - "Community" Relationships in general - neighbors, etc 1Pet 2:12; Col 4:5 Principles of Christ's will must be honored Lk 10:25-37; Jas 2:1-12; Rom 13:10
10
A CHRISTIAN FORMS A NEW REALATIONSHIP WHICH REGULATES ALL OTHERS – Family relationship - "Home" Teaching of Christ regulate family and show the way to true happiness in this relationship Husband / Wife: Eph 5:22-33; Col 3:18-19; 1Pet 3:1-7 Parent / child: Eph 6:1-4; Col 3:20-21; 2Cor 12:14; 1Tim 5:4,8,16
11
A CHRISTIAN FORMS A NEW REALATIONSHIP WHICH REGULATES ALL OTHERS – Religious relationship - "Church" (congregation) Imitate humility, meekness and gentleness of Christ Phil 2:5-11; 2Cor 10:1 Consider one another Heb 10:24; Phil 2:1-4 Honor one another Rom 2:10 Teach, admonish, restore one another Eph 5:18-19; Col 3:16; Gal 6:1 Each work to build up the body Eph 4:14-16; 1Cor 12:14-27
12
FAILURE IN RELATIONSHIPS AS DIRECTED AFFECTS RELATIONSHIP TO CHRIST – Respect government for conscience sake Rom 13:5 – Work as servants of Christ Eph 6:6; Titus 2:10 – Influence community Matt 5:13-16 – Deny faith if family not right 1Tim 5:8; 1Pet 3:7 – Can't love God and hate our brother 1Jhn 4:20-21
13
RELATIONSHIPS TO CHRIST IS ABOVE ALL OTHER RELATIONSHIPS – Relationship of spiritual things to work - (making a living) Christ's Kingdom comes first Matt 6:19-34 – Can't put family, anyone or any thing above Christ Matt 10:32-38 – God is higher than government Acts 4:19; 5:29 – God gave Christ authority of the church Col 1:18
14
It is just as necessary to please God in the home, in business, in civil affairs and social contacts as in the church If relationships in these are not right then one is not a Christian (in true sense of the word) no matter how faithful in the work and worship of the congregation of God's people where they attend
