Source : Energy Policy and Planning Office, Ministry of Energy, August 2004 10 Tips on OIL Saving 1. Drive at max. 90 km/hr 2. Use Mass Transit instead of Private Cars Max. speed limits by law: Ordinary route 90 km/hr Expressway 110 km/hr Motorway 120 km/hr If 1% of 5 million car users switch to use public fleet services to travel 48 km/day, in 1 year (260 working days), 52 million litres of oil could be saved, worth 780 million baht. Driving Speed Compared with Speed More Oil Used 95 km/hr80 km/hr15% 110 km/hr80 km/hr29% 100 km/hr90 km/hr10% 110 km/hr90 km/hr25%

Car Pool If 5 cars are used to travel 48 km/car (round trip) in the same direction to destinations near each other, 5,200 litres of oil will be wasted in 1 year (260 working days), worth 78,000 baht. If 1% of 5 million cars manage the use of Car Pool, taking turn to drive 5 passengers/1 car, 41.6 million litres of oil could be saved in 1 year, worth 624 million baht. Leaving the engine run idle for 5 minutes will waste 500 cc of oil.

Source : Energy Policy and Planning Office, Ministry of Energy, August 2004 If merely 1% of 5 million cars get stuck in traffic jam every working day and on some weekends, in 1 year (330 days/year), 12.4 million litres of oil will be wasted, worth 186 million baht 6. Use Telephone/Fax to avoid getting caught in the traffic 5. Avoid the Rush Hour Use telecommunication devices instead of travelling on the road to send documents between offices, for example. If urgent, use fax machines. For important documents, try to send in a batch with other documents. For regular circulars, use e-mail or postal services.

Source : Energy Policy and Planning Office, Ministry of Energy, August 2004 7. Study the Route before Travelling 8. Ensure Proper Tyre Pressure and Clean Air Filter Daily driving for 48 km on average in 1 month with tyre pressure 1 lb./sq. inch less than the standards will cause extra oil consumption: Cars 2.4 litres extra Motorcycles 1.2 litres extra Trucks 4.2 litres extra If 30% of each vehicle type often ignore this tip for accumulative 30 days/year, an extra of 5.8 million litres of oil will be consumed, worth 87 million baht. A clean air-filter helps save 65 cc of oil per day Need cleaning every 2,500 km. Change every 20,000 km. Getting lost on your way for 10 minutes will waste 500 cc of oil, worth 7.50 baht. If 5 million cars get lost on their way once a month on average in 1 year, 30 million litres of oil will be wasted, worth 450 million baht.

Source : Energy Policy and Planning Office, Ministry of Energy, August 2004 9. Avoid Unnecessary Load 10. Check the Engine Regularly Driving with about 10 kg of unnecessary load for a distance of 25 km. will waste 40 cc of oil. If 10% of 5 million cars nationwide carry unnecessary load while driving, 7.3 million litres of oil will be wasted in 1 year, worth 10.95 million baht. Change the air filter as scheduled. Change the lube oil every 5,000 km. Check the level of engine oil and water in the battery. Check the level of cooling water. Tune up the engine to maintain efficiency; this will help save 3-9% of oil.
