4 4 Going to High School To earn a high school diploma, you must… Earn 24 credits in specific subject areas Pass the Graduation Test - Writing Attend school Complete 20 hours of approved Community Service by the end of the 3 rd year 4

5 5 Going to High School What is a unit of credit ? A number (1.0) to indicate you passed a class. To earn credits you need to be in class and pass the class! 5

Refer to IHE-R for students entering SCCPSS from private or out-of-county school after 9th grade. 6

10 10 Going to High School Mathematics CCGPS* 9 th - Coordinate Algebra 10 th - Analytic Geometry 11 th - Advanced Algebra 12 th - Pre-Calculus OR 9 th - Accelerated Coordinate Algebra/Analytic Geometry A 10 th - Accelerated Analytic Geometry B/Advanced Algebra 11 th - Accelerated Pre-Calculus 12 th - AP Calculus, AP Statistics, or Advanced level Mathematics course 10

15 15 Going to High School Secondary Assessment Transition Plan Students entering grade nine for the first time first during the 2011-2012 school year and beyond Must pass the GHSWT Are not required to take or pass GHSGT (test not administered) Are required to pass courses* associated with EOCT, with EOCT contributing 20% to course grade 15

17 17 Going to High School Community Service Every student must complete a minimum of 20 hours of community service by the completion of the junior year. Must be completed at a non-profit agency Student cannot work at a business Cannot be completed during the school day Student cannot get paid 17
