3 1 Jn. 5:1-5 Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him. By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.
4  For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?
5 Born of God or begotten of God = A reference to the new birth Overcometh = indicates a continuing struggle with a continuing victory
7 Heb. 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him
8 Jn. 8:24 I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.
9 The Gospel saves those who believe – Rom. 1:16-17  For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.
10 Belief + baptism = salvation from sin – Mk. 16:16  He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned
11 Faith is necessary for living the Christian life
12 1 Cor. 13:13 And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.
