3  Majority of Roma are living in houses of stone, before nomads  No changes on the field of education, around 13 % of illiteracy  Increase of unemployment among Roma population from around 65% to almost 95%  Roma women are facing multiple discrimination  New legislation, strategies and programs were adopted but …

4  Poor housing conditions are the primarily source of stereotypes  Living conditions have improved but did not meet the standards (modest houses, week public infrastructure)  Legalization of Roma settlements  National authorities are avoiding responsibility  Payment of the services  Working body for Roma issues

5  2/3 of Roma do not finish primarily school  High drop-out from the school with the long-term consequences  Lack of knowledge of Slovenian language, poor housing condition and discrimination  High % of Roma children are attending schools with adjusted teaching program  Victims poor education are Roma children (no job, poor self- image, low self-respect, no hope)  Roma assistants (poor educated, project based employment)  Lack of motivation of parents for education (education of parents)

6  Deepening of the common stereotypes and prejudices  Poor or/and insufficient education  Discrimination  Social subsidies  Social entrepreneurship (to gain back the self-respect)

7  Roma women are the future or Roma community  Multiple discrimination, easy target  ˝Cultural relativism˝  Traditions against human rights must be changed  Education is the only way out  To empower Roma women

8  Protected by Article 65 of the Constitution of the RS  The Roma Community Act  14 sector specific laws beside the Roma Community Act regulate the status of Roma Community in Slovenia  Different programs and strategies were adopted  Roma does not enjoy the status of national minority in RS  Recognised as a special national community with the special ethnic characteristics  Strategies did not give enough tangible results (lack of commitment, financial and human resources)  Disrespect of reports and initiatives of NGO and independent monitoring bodies (Advocate of the principle of equality)
