Head and neck cancer is often detected when it’s progressed to a late stage. A Sylvester physician has developed a test to detect this type of cancer at an early stage and it’s a simple mouthwash.
The University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Medical Center’s Ryder Trauma Center is home to the U.S. Army Trauma Training Center (ATTC). This is the only place in the nation where the Army trains its medical teams.
An enhanced vaccine to treat brain tumors in children was developed and tested by a Sylvester researcher and has received FDA approval for use with patients.
The HIHG is a major player in the arena has stored blood samples from hundreds of thousands of patients, continually work to catalog the genetic makeup of each one, and gather the scientists to look for patterns that will lead to treatments.
The Hussman Institute is home to one of the largest academic gene sample banks in the U.S., with more than 120,000 individuals.
According to scientists from other top medical schools, Harvard and Stanford, ISCI is leading the nation in its work with stem cells in treating heart disease.
