1 Project Purpose and Background
The purpose of the project is to Develop a performance-based, Curriculum Architecture DesignSM (CAD) for . . . . . . using EPPIC’s PACTSM Process for CAD <CLIENT> <TARGET AUDIENCE> CAD Phase 1 CAD Phase 2 CAD Phase 3 CAD Phase 4 ©2002 EPPIC, Inc. Project Planning & Kick-off Analysis Design Implementation Curriculum Architecture Design and PACT Process are service marks of EPPIC, Inc.

3 Design Meeting Agenda Meeting open and introductions
Project background, overview, and status update Design Phase overview Meeting summary and close

4 Meeting Participant Introductions
Name Organization/job title Background experience “Stakes” in this project effort Plus any . . . Questions/Comments/Concerns

5 CAD Overview and Orientation Review
This project is being conducted using CADDI’s PACT Process for Curriculum Architecture Design (CAD) A Curriculum Architecture Design (CAD) Is a systems engineering view of the total training & development product line for a designated target audience(s) Identifies both current “training available” and “gaps” to facilitate gap prioritization, planning, and resourcing Produces “macro” analysis and design outputs For use later in the new (training) product development methodology (as prioritized/planned/resourced)

8 CAD Overview and Orientation Review (continued)
The use of teams throughout all phases of the project in conjunction with a structured, gated process results in reduced cycle time, accelerated development, and higher quality outputs The CAD process is customer-/stakeholder-driven Results in a more appropriate design Better customer understanding of that design Increased development and implementation resources and support from the customer

9 CAD Process Four-Phase Approach
CAD Phase 1 CAD Phase 2 CAD Phase 3 CAD Phase 4 Project Planning & Kick-off Analysis Design Implementation ©2002 EPPIC, Inc. This project is being conducted via the following four phases using a team process: Phase 1: Project Planning & Kick-off Phase 2: Analysis Phase 3: Design Phase 4: Implementation Planning

10 Key CAD Outputs Key Outputs of a Curriculum Architecture Design Project Kick-off Phase Analysis Phase Project Plan Target Audience Data Job: A Performance Model Job: A Design Phase Knowledge/ Skill Matrix Individual T&D Planning Guide Target Audience Data Job: B Performance Model Job: B Existing T&D Assess- ments T&D Path for a Job/Job Family Target Audience Data Job: C Performance Model Job: C Target Audience Data Job: D Performance Model Job: D T&D Module Specs Implementation Phase T&D Module Inventory Framework Gap Priorities T&D Event Specs ©2002 EPPIC, Inc.

11 Key CAD Concepts A T&D product is a T&D Event (standard deliverable) composed of T&D Modules (Event subassemblies/ components) A T&D Module may exist within multiple T&D Events Is shareable (as appropriate) T&D Events and/or Modules should be implemented on a priority/ROI basis Priorities: High, medium, low, zero (developed/acquired) Low priorities should never be resourced T&D Event: XYZ Module: 1.02 Module: 5.71 Lesson A Lesson A Lesson B Lesson B Lesson C T&D Event: ABC Module: 1.02 Module: 5.71 Lesson A Lesson A Lesson B Lesson B Lesson C ©2002 EPPIC, Inc.

12 Key CAD Concepts (continued)
T&D Modules and Events may be delivered via the following deployment platforms:* Deployment platforms used in the current CAD Lab (GP) Classroom (GP) S-OJT: Structured, on-the-job training (SP) Other/optional deployment platforms for future use Document (SP) CBT/Multimedia (SP) E-Learning LotusNotes (SP) Intranet/Homepage (SP) Regional LAN (SP) Performance Aid (SP) Audiotape (SP) Videotape (SP) U-OJT: Unstructured, on-the-job training (SP) Interactive Distance Learning (GP or SP) GP = Group-paced instruction SP = Self-paced instruction *Depending on the availability of delivery hardware, software, and other infrastructure

14 CAD Process Project Teams and Roles (continued)
Project Steering Team Analysis Team Design Team Implementation Planning Team Project ISD Team Design Team Influence the design of the T&D Path(s) structure and the T&D Module and Event Specifications Define typical T&D Paths for the <TARGET AUDIENCE> key roles Implementation Planning Team Prioritize the gap T&D Modules and Events Establish the development costs for the gap T&D Modules and Events Project ISD Team Conduct the actual work of the project Composed of personnel from <xxx>

15 CAD Process Phase 3: Design
CAD Phase 1 CAD Phase 2 CAD Phase 3 CAD Phase 4 Design ©2002 EPPIC, Inc. Project Planning & Kick-off Analysis Implementation Description – The Design Team is facilitated through a systematic design process; some details are completed after the design meeting Key Activities/Tasks – A Design Team composed of one to three members from the Analysis Team and members of the Project Team meet to define the design outputs; subsequently, a Project Steering Team gate review meeting is held Key Outputs – Design Document with T&D Path(s), T&D Module Specifications, T&D Event Specifications, T&D Module Inventory Framework, and Individual T&D Planning Guide(s) Phase 3 Kick-off Presentation Phase 3 Review Presentation Note: The intent of the team approach to design is not “to design by committee” but to influence the designers by committee

16 CAD Design Steps 1. Establish the T&D Paths - Beginning - Middle - End
2. Establish AoP-derived Modules and place/sort on to the path(s) (B-M-E) 3. Review Existing T&D Assessments (ETAs) and sort onto the path(s) 4. Review each enabling knowledge/skill item and - Embed into AoP-derived Module or - Place prior to first AoP-derived Module it enables 5. Modularize all nonembedded knowledge/skill items

17 CAD Design Steps (continued)
6. Check sequence/flow of all - AoP-derived Modules - ETAs - K/S-derived Modules 7. “Eventize” all Modules, sequence on path, and detail deployment method, estimated length, etc. 8. Clean up T&D Path - Final titling, sequence, and phase timing 9. Close effort and debrief
