DEFINITION OF CREATIVITY Creativity involves: Breaking away from traditional patterns of thought. Reflective thought. Deferring judgment. Using Bloom’s analysis, evaluation and synthesis to generate new knowledge and different solutions.

CHARACTERISTICS OF CREATIVE INDIVIDUALS Memory for facts Independent. Flexible. Reflective. Many ideas. Complexity of thought. Persistent. Memory for details. Curious. Imaginative. Curious. Open to ideas. Fluency of thought. Reflective.

BRAINSTORMING Brainstorm possible barriers to the development of creativity.

BARRIERS TO CREATIVITY Cultural: traditions often rely on conformity. Emotional: fears of making a mistake; seeming foolish; fear of the unknown; reluctance to play. Perceptual: the inability to break away from patterns so can’t see the finer details’ overvaluing the real world. Environmental: classrooms that fail to stimulate or challenge; lack of resources, no time to “play”, or experiment.
