3. History President- George W. Bush First lady- Laura Bush White House History was introduced in 1983 as "a journal of history devoted to the White House." Since then, the White House has passed the 200th anniversary of its beginning in 1792 and will reach the bicentennial of its occupancy by President John Adams on November 1, 1800. These milestones make us reflect on the long and unique history of the First House. Every president but one has lived there, the lone exception being George Washington, who directed the building of the house.
