1 CAP in BMKG Planning and its Implementation
By Karyono and Zainal Abidin Meteorological climatological and geophysical agency INDONESIA Geneva, Switzerland , April 2013

2 OUTLINE INTRODUCTION BMKG DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS
CAP IMPLEMENTATION PLANNING IN GEOPHYSIC CAP IMPELENTATION PLANNING IN METEOROLOGY

3 INTRODUCTION BMKG (Meteorological climatological and geophysical agency) The one official institution for Meteorological Climatological and Geophysical in Indonesia since 1947 Joint to WMO at 1950 With 3000 employee

4 BMKG DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS
The implementation, monitoring and control of observations, and processing of data and information in the area of meteorology, climatology, and geophysics Data and information services in the area of meteorology, climatology, and geophysics

5 BMKG DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS CONT.
The transmission of information to agencies and stakeholders and the public about climate change The transmission of information and early warnings to the government and the public about natural disasters caused by meteorological, climatological, and geophysical factors The promotion of international cooperation in the areas of meteorology climatology and geophysics

6 CAP IMPLEMENTATION PLANNING IN GEOPHYSIC
InaTEWS (INDONESIA TSUNAMI EARLY WARNING SYSTEM CAP IMPLEMENTATION AND PLANNING FOR INATEWS

7 InaTEWS INDONESIA TSUNAMI EARLY WARNING SYSTEM

8 InaTEWS INTRODUCTION Indonesia is prone to earthquakes because it is located at the meeting point of three tectonic plates, namely: Indo-Australian Plate, the Eurasian plate and the Pacific plate. The meeting point of three tectonic plates are located on the sea so that when a large earthquake occurs at shallow depths, it can be potentially tsunami. Therefore, Indonesia is prone to tsunamis

9 InaTEWS INTRODUCTION cont.
Learning from the experience of the earthquake and tsunami in Aceh, Mentawai and other areas that cause casualties and property losses, therefore it is needed preparedness efforts by both government and the community to reduce the risk due to earthquake and tsunami. As the tsunami hazard preparedness efforts, the government of Indonesia in cooperation with various parties established the Indonesian Tsunami Early Warning System
