KRAUS WEBER TEST Made by Dr. Hans Kraus and Hirschland in 1954 It is also known as Minimum muscular fitness strength test. This test items are graded on a pass fail basis and scored from 0 – 10 The six test items were applied to 4458 Eastern United States school children and 3156 European children (Swiss, Austrian and Italian children). It was reported that 57.9% of the United States children and only 8.7% of European children failed one or more of the test items. KRAUS WEBER TEST Kraus –Weber Test originated in a poster clinic and was developed for diagnosis and treatment of lower back pain soon, it became familiar as Kraus Weber test of minimum muscular fitness the test consists of 6 items that indicate the level of muscular strength and flexibility of key muscle groups. Test six items of the Kraus Weber test muscular strength test items are given below;- 1. Strength of Abdominal Plus Psoas Muscles. 2. Strength of abdominal Minus Psoas Muscle. 3.Strength of Psoas and lower abdominal Muscles. 4.Strength of Upper back muscles. 5. Strength of lower back muscles 6. Floor touch test. KRAUS WEBER TEST 1. Strength of Abdominal Plus Psoas Muscles. Purpose:- To measure the strength of abdominal plus psoas muscles. Equipment:-Pen, Paper, Flat surface or table. Procedure:- The subject is asked to lie down on table in supine position with his hands behind the neck. The tester holds the subject’s feet down and asks him/her to perform one sit-up. Scoring-If the subject is unable to raise their shoulder from the table, a zero is given and is graded as fail. A score of ten is given if the subject is able to perform one complete sit-up. KRAUS WEBER TEST 2. Strength of Abdominal Minus Psoas Muscles. Purpose:- To measure of the strength of abdominal minus psoas muscles. Equipment:-Pen, Paper, scoresheet,Flat surface or table. Procedure:- The subject is asked to lie down on the table in a supine position with hands behind the neck. The tester holds the subject’s feet down and asks him/her to perform one sit-up & coming to ‘’A’’ shape position. Scoring-If the subject is unable to raise their shoulder from the table,or the floor, zero is given and is graded as a fail. KRAUS WEBER TEST 3.Strength of Psoas and Lower Abdominal Psoas Muscles. Purpose:- To assess the strength of Psoas and lower abdominal muscles. Equipment:-Pen, Paper, Flat surface or table. Procedure:- The subject is asked to lie down in a supine position with hands behind the neck and feet raised to a height of 10 inches with knees straight, bringing this position to ‘’V’’ shape and holding this position for 10 second.The tester starts counting 10 seconds as soon as the subject has raised his/her feet to the height of 10 inches. Scoring-If the subject is graded fail if he/she cannot hold raised feet for 10 seconds, Each additional second after 10 seconds, fetches additional score of one for each second up to a maximum score of ten. KRAUS WEBER TEST 4. Strength of Upper Back Muscles. Purpose:- To assess the strength of upper back muscle. Equipment:-Pen, Paper, Flat surface or table, and Pillow. Procedure:- The subject is asked to lie down in a prone ( belly facing downward) position with the pillow under the pelvic region and lower abdominal,hands behind the neck.The tester holds feet down and ask the subject to raise head, shoulder and chest from the table up to navel region for 10 secs. and starts counting 10 seconds as soon as the subject raises chest, the examiner starts counting time. Scoring-If the subject is graded fail if he/she cannot hold raised head and shoulders and chest for 10 seconds, Each additional second after 10 seconds, fetches additional score of one for each second up to a maximum score of 10. KRAUS WEBER TEST 5. Strength of Lower Back Muscles. Purpose:- To assess the strength & endurance of Lower back muscles. Equipment:-Pen, Paper, Flat surface or table, and Pillow. Procedure:- The subject is asked to lie down in a prone ( belly facing downward) position with a pillow under pelvic region and lower abdomen. The tester instead of holding the feet of the subject asks him/ her to raise feet keeping knees straight Scoring- As soon as the subject raises his / her feet with knees straight, the examiner start counting seconds. If the subject holds the position for 10 seconds, he/she is graded pass otherwise fail. If the subject is able to hold the position for more than 10 seconds,each additional second scores on point for the subject up to to a maximum of ten points. KRAUS WEBER TEST 6.Floor Touch Test Purpose:- To measure the strength & flexibility of lower back and hamstring muscles. Equipment:-Pen, Paper and Flat surface. Procedure:- The subject is asked to stand erect in bare feet with hand at sides, and feet together. The examiner holds knees of the subject and asks him/her to lean down slowly and touch floor with finger tips and hold the position for three seconds. Scoring-If the finger tips remain at a distance of 10 or more inches from the floor, the subject is graded as fail while the subject is awarded 1 point who is able to touch the floor and hold the touch position for three seconds is given a score of 10 points.
