2 Root: Greg Comes from Latin grex, “herd” or “flock.”

3 Aggregate Definition: A collection or sum of units or parts.
Sentence: The aggregate of incriminating details unmistakably pointed toward a conviction.

4 Congregation Definition: (1) A gathering of people especially for worship or religious instruction. (2) The membership of a church or synagogue. Sentence: That Sunday the minister delivered an especially inspirational sermon to the congregation.

5 Egregious Definition: Standing out, especially in a bad way; flagrant.
Sentence: Many of the term papers contained egregious grammatical errors.

6 Segregate Definition: (1) To separate from others or from the general mass; isolate. (2) To separate along racial lines. Sentence: It is now frowned upon to segregate schools based on race.

7 Root: Flu/Fluct Comes from the Latin verb fluere, “to flow.”

8 Affluence Definition: An abundance of material wealth.
Sentence: The affluence of the city’s northern suburbs is indicated by the huge houses there.

9 Effluent Definition: Something that flows out; polluting waste material discharged into the environment. Sentence: The effluent from the mill had long ago turned this once-beautiful stream into a foul-smelling open-air sewer.

11 Mellifluous Definition: Flowing like honey or sweetened as if with honey. Sentence: The actor’s rich, mellifluous voice is familiar to us from voice-overs for commercials, station breaks, and documentaries.

Comes from the Latin verb prehendere, “to seize.”

13 Apprehensive Definition: Looking at the future with anxiety or alarm.
Sentence: She was extremely apprehensive about her first day at the new school.

14 Comprehend Definition: (1) To grasp the meaning of; understand. (2) To take in or include. Sentence: Sometimes it is difficult for people to comprehend math equations.

15 Prehensile Definition: Adapted for grasping, especially by wrapping around. Sentence: In her nightmare, prehensile tentacles encircled her limbs and probed her features.

16 Reprehensible Definition: Deserving stern criticism or blame; culpable. Sentence: Whether or not he ever broke the law, Jack’s treatment of Lenore was thoroughly reprehensible.
