3 Graduation Requirements
If you started high school in 2017 – 2018 A minimum unweighted GPA of 2.0 is required to graduate Community Service is a graduation requirement Passing score on the ELA FSA is a graduation requirement Passing score on the Algebra EOC is a graduation requirement End of Course Exams: Algebra 1, Geometry, Biology & US History. You must take the EOC exams to earn credit. Requirements (24 credits) 4 Language Arts credits 4 Math credits 3 Science credits 3 Social Science credits 1 Physical Education credit (.5 credit must be Personal Fitness) – waiver? 1 Fine Art credit – waiver? 8 Elective credits (this includes Foreign Language) Digital Learning Requirement (online course or Industry Certification )

4 CONCORDANT SCORES If you do not pass the ELA FSA,
you can substitute a specific ACT, PSAT or SAT score to meet the graduation requirement. Concordant Scores for the FSA ELA: SAT (430 on ERW or 24 on Reading) or ACT (19 on Reading or ACT Reading/English Subtests Average of 18) If you do not pass the ELA FSA this year or have a concordant score, you will have to take Intensive Reading in your senior year. Concordant Scores for the Algebra EOC: PERT (97) or PSAT (430) or Sat (420) or ACT (16)

6 Waivers Fine Art Requirement can be waived by two years in ROTC
PE Elective (.5 credit) can be waived by two years in ROTC or a dance class. You still have to take .5 of Personal Fitness. PE/Personal Fitness Requirement can be waived by participation in 2 seasons of an interscholastic sport (Varsity)

9 Student Portal You can access a history of your credits through the Student Portal Once you sign in click on “Personal Information” and then click on “Course History”. 13 Subject Selection You will receive you Course Request Worksheet from Your English 3 teacher in late January. Elective choices on the back. You must list four electives in order of preference. Space in electives is limited. Discuss your course selection with your parents, get necessary teacher signatures, and complete the worksheet before you meet with your counselor. You will meet with your counselor in early February to complete your course selection. You must have your completed worksheet when you meet with your counselor. In order for a student to take an Honors or AP course the following criteria are considered: pre-requisites, grades, test scores, teacher recommendations.

Browse through college literature or surf the Web. Learn what kind of grades and test scores that colleges are looking for. Attend college presentations! FOCUS ON YOUR CORE ACADEMIC SUBJECTS: 4 English / 4 Math / 3 Science / 3 Social Studies and 2 Foreign Languages. Retake core classes. Understand what colleges are looking for. Begin SAT/ACT Testing Starting 2nd semester of your junior year. Finish your testing by the end of your junior year by achieving your predetermined “target” score. High School transcripts sent to colleges in September, October, November and December will be based on your grades from 9th, 10th and 11th grade. The only update will occur after the 1st semester 12th Grade

16 SAT and ACT To register for the SAT go to collegeboard.org.
To register for the ACT go to act.org Check registration dates. See Mr. Roddy in 2186A for your SAT and ACT waivers. You can go before school, lunch or after school. If you are on free or reduced lunch you qualify for a certain number of waivers.

18 To receive the American Dream Scholarship, you must meet the following requirements:
Currently reside in Miami-Dade County Have earned a standard high school diploma, GED, or home school diploma in Miami Dade County during the May- July 2021 period Have a cumulative high school weighted GPA of 3.00 or above Must meet minimum test scores on approved standardized tests. Any combination of the highest available CPT/PERT, ACT and SAT scores are used in determining your readiness (college ready) in the skill area. Complete the federal financial aid application (FAFSA), but you do not need to be eligible to receive federal financial aid. Please remember that it may take several days for MDC to receive your information even after you request it. Therefore, please allow enough time for this to occur by the deadline.
