7 Agenda What is Dante? What network protocols it uses
Switch QoS configuration Switch IGMP configuration Q&A

8 Audinate Dante

9 What Is Dante? In Audinate’s words: it enables digital audio distribution over standard ethernet networks using standard networking protocols. Along with unparalleled audio quality, Dante delivers ultra-low latency and near- perfect synchronization.* Time synchronized audio over IP Products include Active speakers Mixers Amplifiers Processors Software Many 3rd party products *Source credit – audinate.com

10 Dante Network Requirements
Ethernet cables Will also work over Fiber Do not use over Wi-Fi EEE (Energy Efficient Ethernet) cannot be used All Luxul managed switches have EEE turned off by default

11 Dante Network Recommendations
Any switch can be used, but… Managed Gigabit switches highly recommended Especially for a network that has both Dante and data traffic QoS technically not required in a switch only used for Dante, but… Best practice for time sync is to configure QoS properly Again, highly recommended in a network that has both Dante and regular data traffic Managed Gigabit switch DSCP (Diffserv) based QoS configuration IGMP / Multicast configuration

12 Network protocols Dante uses
UDP – both unicast and multicast mDNS and DNS-SD Multicast DNS resolves hostnames to IP addresses DNS service directory Network discovery of Dante devices AES67 Layer 3 Audio over IP standard PTP (Precision Time Protocol) Protocol that syncs clocks in a network

13 Switch Configuration

14 Login to switch Login to switch via web browser.
If your network is not currently on a x subnet, you may need to temporarily set your computer to a static IP subnet of x It is also recommended to change the IP address of the switch to match the subnet of your network. Default IP address of the switches are: AMS-2600 = AMS/XMS-1208P = All other models = Default username = admin Default password = admin* * Latest firmware will require a password change upon initial setup

15 DSCP Based QoS Configuration

16 DSCP QoS Settings Navigate to Configuration > QoS > Port Classification. Select DSCP Based option for all ports. Clicking the top row with the * globally selects all ports. 1 4 2 3

17 Save DSCP Settings Scroll to bottom of screen and click Save

18 DSCP Based QoS In the same QoS menu section, navigate to DSCP-Based QoS Select Trust for all DSCP classes. It is also acceptable to select Trust only on the classes that are required for Dante. Those classes are specified on the next page. 2 1

19 Select QoS Class Set Class 0 to priority 0 Set Class 8 to priority 5 Set Class 46 to priority 6 Set Class 56 to priority 7 Click Save at bottom of screen Class info can be found at

20 Set QoS Class 1 3 2 4 5

21 IGMP Multicast Configuration

22 IGMP Multicast Configuration
Navigate to Configuration > IPMC > IGMP Snooping > Basic Configuration Check Snooping Enabled Check Unregistered IPMCv4 Flooding Enabled (it should be enabled already) Check Fast Leave on all ports Changing the setting on the top row with the * globally selects all ports Click Save at bottom of screen

23 IGMP Multicast VLAN Configuration
Navigate to Configuration > IPMC > IGMP Snooping > VLAN Configuration Click Add New IGMP VLAN Check Snooping Enabled Check Querier Election IP Address can be left at or can be the IP address of the switch Set IP as IP address of the switch if using more than one switch in network Change Compatibility to Forced IGMPv2 30 2 3 4 5 6 1 7

24 Save Startup Config Navigate to Administration > Configuration > Save startup- config Click Save Configuration to make settings permanent in the switch
