"for their discovery of cancer therapy by inhibition of negative immune regulation."

6 Cancer Research UK research strategy
“We will invest in new funding schemes to support world-class research that will enable us to meet our ambitions.” Strengthen existing funding Invest in innovation Support collaboration Address big questions Invest in people Strategic awards Boost immunology research

7 Cancer Research UK research strategy
6) Boost immunology research More grants More jobs More PhD studentships

8 Aims – translational cancer research
Understand the latest molecular (targeted therapy) and immunotherapy [cancer immunology] approaches being applied to translational cancer research (the latest research driven treatment strategies for cancer patients). Understand the critical contribution of the tumour microenvironment (eg., immune T cells, macrophages and stromal cells) towards tumour-promoting inflammation immune response (dynamically interconnected processes). Understand the key cellular and molecular (genetic) processes affecting leukaemia and lymphoma cells.
