Core Skills Advanced Skills Choreography Balance– stationary position Jump – two feet take off and landing Gesture – basic action Travel – basic movement Turn- basic movement Travel – using a range of pathways Turn- with linking movements Action content- travel, turn, jump, gesture, balance Dynamic content- fast/slow, strong/light, flowing/ abrupt Spatial content- pathways, levels, directions Relationship content- mirroring, canon, unison Components of fitness for dance Balance– so you can hold movements and terns with an even distribution of weight Flexibility- so you have a range of movement in your movements, and it looks aesthetically pleasing Strength- to ensure you have muscular power in movements that require it Timing- so your movements patch the sounds through counts Spatial awareness- so you know the space you are using and the dancers around you Performance Key vocabulary Motif- a movement phrase encapsulating an idea that is repeated and developed throughout a dance Motif development- Way in which a movement phrase can be varied Unison- Two or more dancers performing the same movement at the same time Canon- When the same movement overlaps in time Physical skill- posture, flexibility, stamina and strength Technical skills- timing, rhythm, stylistic Expressive skills- Focus, facial expressions, spatial awareness Mental skills- Movement memory, commitment, concentration, confidence Safe practice- Appropriate dancewear of footwear and absence of jewellery, warm up, cool down, hydration
